TUDOR Black Bay CERAMIC unboxing - the dark (OMEGA) destroyer!

Great video, really well shot and the BB Ceramic is such a cool watch. I hope other manufacturers follow Tudor & Omega's example of elevating to METAS certification, now that COSC is seemingly achievable for anyone with the budget to get a COSC ETA/Sellita movement, METAS will hopefully force Breitling, Tag Heuer etc to push themselves more :) 5:27 so as usual the word "in house/manufacture calibre" probably needs an asterisk next to it - Rolex/Tudor owns a majority stake in Kenissi (20% owned by the chanel group) and all of the Tudor "In-House" movements are made by Kenissi - but IMO since they own the company then that should count as in-house (same way Swatch group owns ETA and Omega, and so the Omega calibres that are made exclusively for them by ETA are also called in-house). Also of the derivative movements of the MT5602 that are found in other watches (Chanel, Breitling, Norqain) don't feature the silicon hairspring, so that part you could say is the differentiator that makes it more in-house for Tudor vs the others.

@@Escapement24 I think they still use some ETA sourced movements, all the Tudor Royal line is ETA based if i'm not mistaken, and the Heritage Chrono and the Glamour line too are ETA based, meanwhile the BB Chrono is a Breitling B01, so its still a mix but the majority of the Black Bays + the Pelagos are now all Tudor/Kenissi movements

The B01 movement is well respected and in the chrono I think Tudor improved it by adding a silicon hairspring and the ability to regulate it more precisely. Pretty good considering the BB Chrono is significantly less expensive than the Breitlings that use that movement!

Nice honest footage! Really shows the watch as it is! I’ve been drooling over ceramic watches a lot in the last couple of years and this really is high on my list! The omega seamaster 300 and speedmaster ceramics are lovely too but I honestly think this takes it!

@@Escapement24 I did! Great video! I’ve had some wrist time with the Apollo 8 and the black black (silly name) speedmaster and I loved them both! The dial and movement detail/case back on the Apollo 8 would have probably swayed me between those two! There is a certain allure to the idea of recklessly splashing out 11k on an almost unreadable watch though in the black black!

the BB Ceramic and the Omega Black Black are sufficiently differentiated that I don't think they are alternatives to each other. You could put both in a collection.

@@Escapement24 Idk if it's because the asking for it is high or it's because the manufacturing is harder than other models. My AD saw only one in January when I order mine (I order it in April). You got a new subscriber !

Thanks buddy! 🙏 I think the ceramic case has a more specialised manufacturing process and the METAS certification is another process, so I suspect this model might have been a vanity project or a marketing tool to show that they can match Omega's technical abilities at a lower cost. It's also a less popular model. So for me, if their profit margin is thinner on this model and they can't be sure of selling as many as others in the BB series, I would assume that production will be restricted.

@@Escapement24 Me too, that would really be something! No, it's a yellow gold watch with a green bezel and green dial, as well as a dark brown leather strap or a dark green nato. I think it's a boutique only piece, as my local AD can't get that particular one.

Great video. It's made me want one even more. Regarding the 'scratches' on the lugs, were they actually scratches or just marks from the spring bar tool that can wipe off? Also, am I the only one that is bothered by the strap being on back to front 😅

I tried wiping the marks on the lugs and they don't seem to come off, but someone else said to use a pencil eraser so I might have to give that a try 🤔 I also recently noticed the strap was the wrong way around but wierdly it's never bothered me so far....one day I'll swap it around!!

You can buy integrated rubber straps to fit the Black Bay series - I think RubberB make one though it's expensive, but I've even seen budget versions on AliExpress, but I can't vouch for the quality. When I was looking for my BB Ceramic there were a few on eBay that had scratches and marks around the bezel so I try to be careful when wearing mine.

I thought kenissi was created ,owned ,run by and manufactured on Tudor premises by Tudor until a 20% stake was sold to Chanel so the kenissi movements are Tudor movements

How lugs can get scratches on a ceramic case ?

It goes to show that ceramic isn't immune from acquiring scratches if it's a sharp objects like a spring bar tool

Hi guys, I’m pretty certain that you won’t scratch a ceramic case with a spring bar tool. Without going into boring amounts of detail, ceramic is about twice as hard as steel (and certainly the cheap, unhardened steel in a spring bar or a spring bar tool). The marks that you might see around the lugs are not scratches but ‘smears’ of steel. They are particularly noticeable on the black ceramic of this piece but if they bother you then you can wash them off using dish soap and a hard tooth brush or metal polish if they are more persistent. Try scratching a ceramic mug and cleaning the smears off that first before using the polish just to make sure it doesn’t react badly. Obviously you can scratch ceramic but you need something harder than ceramic eg sapphire, ruby or diamond. I have to say that the Black Bay Ceramic is utterly mesmerising in the flesh. There is something about the subdued lume and the uncoated sapphire that has me gazing in wonder for long minutes at mine. Add to this the stunning accuracy (+1 second over 4 days on the wrist and on its back at night) makes this a no brainer.

That's really interesting and I'll have to try rubbing the area around the lugs where I thought it was scratched to see if the marks come off. This has become one of my favorites in the collection and although one of my Tudors is probably going to have to go soon, I can't see it being this one.

It’s totally captured my heart. I’ve got 3 other Tudors, the BB58 Bronze, the 58 Black and the BB Pro. The Pro had me for a long time. I find it extremely wearable and again, the lume colour and GMT hand faded orange tint had me staring at the face for more time than was healthy! But then I saw the ceramic and tried it on. It was like I’d been hit by an arrow in my chest. I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. For me it is the definition of understated class. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this is not for you because of the 41mm size as I was. It wears nothing like any of the other full sized Black Bay pieces. Try one on and prepare to fall in love!!

Thanks man 🙏 Funny thing is that I've gone through 3 mics thinking that they weren't good enough and it turned out (after this video unfortunately) that the room had too much echo and the software I was using to remove it was degrading the audio.
