I feel you and I agree. But this is not surprising as much of human nature is tribalism. They feel emotionally connected to what they have and feel the need to prop up its legitimacy. I try to not do that anymore. My fav watch is my Tudor GMT but I’m hoping to add a panerai.

I didn’t love the snowflake hands at first either. But. The snowflake hands aren’t about elegance, they are about legibility - the BB series are tool watches. I have a BB36, and it is the ultimate motorcycling watch - I can tell time at a 90 MPH at a glance, and you don’t want to be fiddling with the angle at that or really at any speed over 50. I just expose my wrist, flick my eyes down, and done. It’s really satisfying. Over time I’ve come to appreciate the snowflake, and the watch overall, and I’m just in love with it. I miss the lack of a date function at times, but the clean dial is totally worth it. The BB58 is next but I can’t decide between blue or black gilt.

I own this watch. I have owned a bunch of Rolex models. And Omegas, IWCs, Breitlings, blah blah blah. I settled on this watch as my daily because I have realized that wearing $7-$18k watches on my wrist every day is not for me. I can't relax. It seems way beyond necessary. I don't get a thrill from being the guy with the expensive watch. I don't care if others notice. I am not trying to impress dudes. I am looking for a classic style that is a financial commitment to purchase. If I use a tool all the time and love using it, I invest in buying a quality tool. The Rolex lifestyle can bite me. I find the luxury thing really pointless and tacky. The Tudor is a luxury watch but it is also a fly under the radar, impress no one watch. I wear it in peace and I enjoy the Sub-like dive styling, quality and mellow colorway with zero stress. If you love Rolex and can wear their watches without all the dissonance of value retention, Hodinkee Nation and dude one upsmanship affecting you, enjoy it! I wish I could. I know I can't. So I don't. I have a Tudor BB58. --Michael

Wonderful honest video! I completely get the hype over this watch, but each time I try on the BB58 series I run into the same sentiment that you bring out. Bezel feel hard to grip and turn, smaller watch feel. I guess my expectation of a dive watch stems from a sub or fifty fathoms so the comparison is not apples to apples. Good solid watch. Just not for the collection. Glad to see everyone excited about it though.

I think Tudor is making some great tool watches for everyday use. I've owned my Black Bay 36 for 2.5 years and absolutely love it. It's taken the spot in my collection as a daily "beater" to an extent - I'll wear it doing just about anything. I love some of the smaller details on it, like the Tudor shield on the dial, "Rotor Self-Winding" smile, and the Tudor Rose on the crown. I bought it before my son was born and wore through his birth and first 18 months of his life so it's going to him someday. Tudor as a brand though, meh... Can't say any of their other watches do much for me. I like the Black Bay 58, but now that I own a Sub 114060, I don't see any reason to buy one. I prefer vintage Tudor, like their Subs or older Oyster Dates. PS - that BB58 doesn't hold a candle to that 2531 SMP. One of the only watches I regret ever selling!

Had an original Blue Tudor Snowflake Submariner in the 80s which I used for Diving and general wear. It stayed in the family when I bought myself a 5513. There was no discernable difference in performance to the Rolex. It's fair to say the same applies today to the modern equivalents it's just that the Tudor is better value for money and more available.
@Bornia19823 жыл бұрын
As Rolex moves more and more upmarket, Tudor is filling in the space of the tool watch. It’s ok for Tudor to be more rugged exactly because it is harder and harder for Rolex to pull that off. And there is a time and place for both pieces.

I had a BB all black and it was a lovely watch but was at least 2mm too tall for its 41mm width. As a result it felt top heavy on the wrist and sadly had to go. I miss it, but not the ungainly wrist presence. I now have a BB58 Blue and it is just so comfortable to wear and width to height is spot on. I also had a Pelagos LHD which I loved for its brilliant titanium case, even better ultra brilliant adjust able strap but it was too tall again by 2mm. It was a close call but my godson now loves it and that is so cool for him.

Being a fan of Tudor (I love my BB36) as well as a guitar player, I totally get what you mean about the feeling that Tudor is like the equivalent to a Japanese Reissue Fender. I understand this was not a knock. That said, recall that there was a time when the reissue Strats and Teles made in Japan were actually better than/on par the reissues Fender was making in the US. I’d be so bold as to say the same thing is happening with Tudor, re: Rolex. Of course, given the choice, I’d take an American Reissue 57 Strat over a Japanese reissue. But I’d still love playing the Japanese reissue because I know how good it plays. Likewise, I’d take. Rolex GMT over a Tudor...but if I had to have the Tudor, I would still get much enjoyment out of it. Anyhow...big fan of the channel. Keep doing what you do. It is appreciated.

Great review. A few points: 1) At the beginning of the video I thought the watch looked a bit small on your wrist. Then you mentioned the same later. I have a 7" wrist, and in my opinion, my BB58 fits perfectly. 2) The faux rivets do not bother me at all. 3) Like you said, the bezel is a bit tough to turn because the knurling is pretty fine, but I don't care. I put the pip at 12:00 on mine, and that's where it will stay. Like 99% of the BB58 wearing population, I'll swim with my watch, but I won't dive with it. 4) One criticism that I have, and I've never read anyone else mention it: there's a bit of a hotspot on the clasp when it's closed. Gently run your hand over the closed clasp when it's on your wrist and you'll see what I mean. All things considered, it's an outstanding watch.

I have a Rolex and love it. I bought a BB58 last year because I liked how it looked more than what Rolex are currently making - so very pleased to hear you saying (#06:00) "It's not a compromise". Great watch. Your blue one looks great too, but I couldn't justify owning two BB58s! I'd love a blue diver, so it'd have to be that Omega of yours for my lineup. Agree about those awful faux rivets - that's why I bought my black BB58 on the leather strap instead. I like the snowflake hands, but I'd have preferred if Tudor had made the indices square as well, like on the Pelagos.

Turned 40 a month ago, what better way to celebrate than to buy a Rolex! Nope, none available, mile long waitlist. Long story short, picked up this same watch and love it, now I don’t really care if I get called for a Rolex.

If you like hands that catch the light why not try Grand Seiko?

Seems like the dive suit extensions are slowly disappearing on divers. Nice that someone is still keeping the aluminum bezel alive though, nice option for the collection.
