Kelly, I just wanted to tell you that your sheep camp sweater is a 100% win! I said to my husband, “Wow! That sweater looks AMAZING on her. The colors are just perfect for her complexion and hair.” He said, “Yea, I agree. It does look really good.” Well done!

I couldn't have lived with the sock oopsie either Kelly! Peace of mind is worth the extra hour that it takes to rip and re-knit! I think I need to knit some Riptides. About the DK sock and holding fingering weight yarn double ... Fingering/ sock weight: 80/20 2 ply high twist at 380 yards vs a 75/25 467 yard fingering. They make a very different fabric. See you next week 🤓
@KnitsnPieces6 ай бұрын
thanks Nancy, I agree different fingering weights definitely produce different fabrics. You should try a Riptide pattern they are amazing

Love the bright/hot pink, Noelle and think that was possibly the Pantone 2023 colour of the year? Bought this colour SQ of The Knitting Loft Mesa last year, abandoned resulting WIP and wondering what sweater to knit with it now. Have to share that I did not embrace Knit Companion. I took several in-depth classes (in 2016?) and loved the concept. But, after using K.C. extensively for some time, went back to pencil and paper. Found that it wasn’t very convenient for so many reasons - having to have iPad so accessible, ensuring my battery was charged, especially didn’t like to use when travelling, going back and forth to K.C. and pattern when watching podcasts. Surprised myself with this decision as I love my Kindle for reading and have fully abandoned paper for everything else but for knitting have returned to printing patterns and paper/pencil for notes. As usual, another great episode. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing Karen. I really love Knit Companion but know it’s not for everyone, we all have to choose the method that works best for us. I’m not sure what I am going to knit with my Mesa but will certainly share once I decide

You talked about never getting around to knitting a sweater a second time as much as you’d love to, so I would like to suggest that you use that for a knit a long theme. You ladies do a great job and I love seeing all your beautiful work! Take care! Cindy

Hey ladies, great podcast again. For LYS day us Yarn Rebels hired a bus and are doing a yarn crawl to a few of our local Yarn stores in our area. There should be about 35 of us going to 5 yarn shops with a lunch at a local brewery. It should be a blast! All the yarn goodies plus a cold beer and taco lunch, visiting with all our friends, what more can you ask for 😄 Most of the shops are having pop ups from different vendors as well and one is celebrating a birthday, so we’ll have cake as well. So excited to see everyone and to just have a fun filled day ❤ sending luv from Edmonton Alberta 😘

I have used my forearm to rewind yarn from a ripped out sweater. My Apple Watch has occasionally thought I was doing an elliptical workout. :) I have also gotten a binder clip and clipped the yarn onto my swift and wind it onto there, tie it up, soak it, then hang it by one of the ties over the kitchen sink. I rarely stay with mistakes and will try to repair or take out if necessary. After it’s fixed and worn you will forget about the time it took. Lovely sweaters

😂 My i-watch sometimes thinks that when I use my ball winder. I agree that you forget about fixing mistakes and the time it took once the piece is completed.

After I unwind a project (and end up with ramen noodle yarn!), I do wind it around a plastic cutting board, then I use a spray bottle to spray it with water. This removes the kinks and it dries quickly!

Kelly, I have a tale of woe to make you feel better! I am also not one to rip and reknit, but I’m working on the Helen Stewart mKal and realized after completing Clue 5 that I missed an instruction to move the BOR marker by 6 stitches ten rows back. This is a circular shawl so there are over 500 stitches on each round! I’m busy trying to thread in an afterthought lifeline in a lace pattern…ugh. Noelle, I am knitting Nila right now and *love* it. So much fun to knit (as all of Natasja’s patterns are). Love you two! ❤

@@KnitsnPieces Socks are a great place to start with pattern writing. The basic structure is quite formulaic and I'm positive you are familiar with that 😜😜 Just take the formula with the heel and toe shaping that you like and add the instructions for the ruffle and textured sts. There is also an amazing book that can help you with the math for the different sizes called CUSTOM SOCKS by Kate Atherley but I'm not sure you would need that. Good to have, regardless. I find the math spreadsheets in the book fascinating, and I know you would too. Hope this helps! It's a great design!!!

Great show again. Thank you for doing all this work that you do to make the podcast so awesome. I have a question - how many hours, on average, do you think that you knit per day or per week? I'm so impressed with how many projects you finish and am just curious. thank you. Enjoy your week. Look forward to next week. 😀

Kelly those Cozy Quilt Socks are so so beautiful. Noelle I just hit that paralysis point & I'm as yet undecided. Think I need to sleep on it. I almost cut out completely finished mitt cuffs as one bind off is tighter than the other (argh) but will give them to the recipient & if it doesn't bug her, then less work for me:) I may honour LYS day with a small purchase at Fibre Arts Studio but I'm being super conservative with purchases these days & focusing on knitting from my yarn collection. See y'all next week!

Sheela, I cant remember the last time this happened, I can usually cast on several things, Little Red Mitten just solved my problem though they asked me to knit a sample for Knit City, so I don’t have to decide

Apparently the processing of wool to make superwash removes the lanolin and barbs.

I was using only one yarn but I could see it striping and I didn't like that so I did the helical knitting with the inside and out. It started striping a bit more so I split the ball again and helical knitting with 3 strands. It blended much better

For repurposing yarn- I rip out and wind directly onto my swift. After washing and drying, the hanks are the right size to put back onto the swift and wind into cakes ready for the next project

I have a question for you & your resourceful listeners. I knit a sampler sock pattern recently. I really like them but one of the stitch patterns in the leg collapses when I'm wearing them and they fall down. This hasn't happened to me before. Yarn is bfl nylon. Any suggestions about snugging up about an inch of sock leg so they stay up??

?I am curious if you have some examples of a few sweaters that can be made with one strand of Holst yarn. I have a difficult time figuring out if a maker is using a single strand when I look at Ravelry and I craft on a budget so being able to create a sweater with one strand would be awesome. Thank you.

yes Trish, I will show some single strand Holst sweaters on the next podcast

Here in New Zealand the way they take the lanolin out of the wool could be the cause of the lanolin allergy. Maybe they use another ingredient that could be what is causing the adverse allergy reaction. They use drenches here also that can taint the lanolin.

Kelly what 16” needles do you knit your socks with, which Brand?
@KnitsnPieces5 ай бұрын
I mostly use a pair of Nova Platinas, they live in my sock knitting bag so they are always at hand. I do like using wooden needles to if I’m knitting a more rustic yarn.
