me, too. i'm using this time to get everything ready. today i splurged and got some sewing machine oil from jo-ann's ($7.99), knowing WD-40 would probably be just as good. i also got four yards of black burlap ($3.99/yd.) to practice on, but if i can get away with using that i will. i get that tufting cloth is probably great to use, but it's just really hard to justify like 7x the price which has to be passed on to the customer if i don't have to. there's a ton of things to do if you plan on selling rugs, and no one goes in depth about shipping at all. if you have stuff to do in a day like i do, these things just don't magically happen like it seems in videos. i'd tell anyone to give themselves about two weeks of prep time.

I think what you show as Monk's Cloth vs Tufting Fabric is slightly in error. As as punch needler, I faced this same problem in the beginning. I think what you have in your frame is Monk's cloth and what you hold up to show as Monk's cloth is actually Aida cloth for needlepoint. There is a common misconception in craft stores that Aida cloth is Monk's cloth and may sell you that in place of true Monk's cloth.

Thanks the for helpful video! I have a question/problem regarding cut pile. My gun is not cut/severing the yarn all the way thru. Is it supposed to sever completely? It is mostly cut, but not all the way. I’m a beginner, I’ve pulled my fabric as tight as possible, and I’ve been applying hard pressure, but I can’t get the yarn to look right/stay in the fabric. They fall out very fast, and they’re slightly connected.

Hey do you have a suggestion to where I could send or how I could fix my gun? The issue is that one day I was tufting with my gun and it just stopped working and the only way that I could get back working was by hold the cord by bending it as I tuft which was very annoying 😕 so now I feel like its a wire issue. So have you ever heard of this happening and how can I fix the gun? THX

Thank you for this Video! I am really frustrated at the Moment, thinking a Lot about giving Up the Project, but it's all a Matter of practicing more. My biggest Problem is actually the gun itself. Does anyone also has those issues?

re:monkscloth, actually i think you have it a bit backwards. it's not that the monkscloth won't 'budge', if you notice the monkscloth 'threads' are wider and when using a manual rug tool they 'compress' making a much bigger hole. the issue is that the tufting gun is to aggressive and not as accurate and instead of going between the threads and into a hole it's trying to push it's way 'through' the threads and cuts them. if you want to use monkscloth you'd be better off using a manual tool, or different cloth with the gun. hope this helps.

My fabric becomes loose and sagging the longer I am tufting. I pull it as tight as I possibly can, too. I take a good 45 minutes to make sure it is straight. I am very new (2 rugs finished) so I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. My first rug was using Tuft The World's tufting fabric that came with my cut pile kit. My second rug was just cheap monks cloth to save my good stuff until I get better. They both got pretty saggy and loose, especially in the middle. Any suggestions?
@AJMAKES137
@AJMAKES137 3 жыл бұрын
I sometimes need to pull my fabric after tufting. It’s normal for it to get a little loose over time. But you can tighten it as long as you’re doing it evenly around the border (so you don’t make the lines you’ve made crooked). I’d also be curious to see if your frame is set up properly. You want to make sure the teeth of the edge is sticking outward so it holds the fabric tight. Feel free to dm me on IG if you’re still having trouble!

Do you think cones are absolutely needed? Or can I just lay the yarn cakes down?
@AJMAKES137
@AJMAKES137 3 жыл бұрын
Cakes can probably work fine as long as the yarn comes off it easily (and doesn’t get caught on anything). A good way to test is to pull the yarn directly up off the cake and see if it pulls smoothly.
