so i'm watching Baltimore and the tug in front of the ship is pulling from his bow winch and travelling backwards. is that because there isn't a aft winch? and what kind of rearward visibility do you have when doing so?

Towing from the aft winch is usually for longer tows. If it’s moves around the harbor we usually just pull from the bow. We have a camera on our boat and usually someone is up there with you. Thanks for watching 🤙

Hey Willie great video. It's nice to see the old neighborhood in Staten Island, I grew up there till I was15,we had same good times there. I eventually went deep sea sailing with S.I.U..I tried to get a job on the tugs with the333 Union but they were in the middle of a strike. Willy, Snug Harbor was a place (back in the day) where retired Sea Men retired . It was sort of self sufficent, It had a farm with cows pigs, chickens on sight and also grew their own crops. My grandparents lived 2 blocks away. My Uncles used to play on the grounds (This was the 1940's and 50's). They had to sell the land and moved to North Carolina in the 60's.

Thanks for the tour ,was piecing the locations on the Google map so interesting,have never looked deep into New York or the waterways . I think the rivers and lakes of the USA are not understood as to their importance to transportation of Freight from around the Globe . The Great Lakes ,the rivers and canals that wind their way through the various cities are not seen from a simple glimpse of a map , zooming in is required. Cheers
