We just went to a tulip farm today to pick tulips, and they made sure to cut off the bulbs before we left. They tell you they are just going to throw them away, but my husband flat out asked and was told they would charge us if we wanted to keep them. Haha. 🌷 🌷 🌷 Your video proved our assumption that they are reusable. 🙂

Thanks for such a comment. For storage, I would not suggest garage as temperature can be varying alot. I use my utility room but this is a separate space and fairly dark when not used. You can also try if you have any storage under stairs, seem perfect place (make sure that it has good air flow). I will be uploading a video on what happen to bulbs after storage in few weeks so that can give you more ideas. Curious how many bulbs you planted to begin with?? Did you end up with more or less bulbs to replant?? Did you plant the smaller bulbs to get them to mature into flowering bulbs??
@ProfInfinity Жыл бұрын
I always add new bulbs with store ones. When you store bulbs, you will never get all the bulbs back as bulbs will be divided during flowering season. As very small bulbs takes years to get mature so I tends to plant medium and good size bulbs. Medium size ( bigger than very small) do give flower but generally small in size.

During which seasons are they stored and at what point do you plant them? Do you keep the tiny ones stored like that and they just grow on their own, or do you put them in soil waiting for them to grow bigger? You said we could keep them and wait till they get bigger for a few years, but how do you store them for that long of a time period?
@ProfInfinity2 жыл бұрын
Rebecca very valid questions and glad you ask. Once tulips finish flowering than you can start storage process as you can see in video. I plant them just before winter, I have a video on this on my channel with name Tulips, crocuses and daffodils | a journey of planting to storing bulbs. Do have a look for full details. For very tiny Tulip bulbs ( 5-10 cm) plant them every season and they will get bigger. For very very tiny bulbs less than 5cm, you can discard them. All the best for season. I have replanted my stored bulbs this year and they are give good flowers so storage is working for me. You can follow on my instagram account for instant updates. Tc

Hi, very nice videos. I love flowering bulbous plants. But do the newly planted tulips need to be removed from the ground afterwards, or should they be removed and divided the following year?
@ProfInfinity2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Salvo for watching. If they are in ground than I would suggest to leave them. Not all the varieties of Tulips are perennial but you can add more tulip bulbs in same area every year. This will give you a good flower display and you don't need to worry about if tulips will return or not. In the ground, I would not worry about division but if you grow in containers than it is a different story. All the best for your display.

Interesting question, I never did storage during season but I have feeling that new shoots will come out from bulbs during storage and will be white. I don’t think that they will flower as needs more energy from sun and compost etc. I have experience with dahlia and if you are late than similar thing happen. Can we store during season … I am not fully sure but you may able to. I don’t know how new white shoots will impact growth new year. Just to add, white shoots indicate low light to no light conditions and shoots turn green when expose to sun light. All the best and do share your experience.

What will happen if I don't dig them out of the soil? Will they die?
@ProfInfinity3 жыл бұрын
Arjun, I don't think that they will die. After bloom, if you check bulbs than you will find that they have been divided (few small and few big) so you may not see one big bulb which you have planted. Because of division, smaller bulbs (only give foliage) will take few years before they can get to a good size (which is required to have blooms). My understanding is that if you don't dig them then this is like a future investment where smaller bulbs will get bigger and will give blooms. Do remember that generally varieties are meant to bloom for 1 or 2 years and few varieties are perennial. All the best.
