This motor has been around for a while in Lexus vehicles with great service and reliability. Going right to a crate motor is the best scenario for their consumers. The issue was mostly during the mfg of the motor where debris was left in the motor which caused issues, that doesn’t make it a bad motor. All 1/2 ton trucks have known catastrophic issues with the exception of Nissan Titan (which nobody seems to buy), but I’ll tell You one thing… if I have an issue with my vehicle… there’s no company I’d rather have making it right than Toyota! They stand by their products unlike GM and Ford. Toyota will do anything to make it right and not tarnish their reputation.

Have some 30 plus years of experience in the field and been involved in such engine recall issues and would suggest your estimates are to low, and this does not consider the cost of the recall expanding to additional units potentially being added to the recall or the downstream financial impacts as it’s not like Toyota has capacity to make an additional 100,000 new engines while supplying engines for new vehicles. My quick math based on my experience suggest the total bill to Toyota will exceed $2 billion dollars, it’s large enough they will need to estimate it and include in a financial footnote in their publicly reported financial filings if you want to get there estimate. Likewise such complete engine recalls while not common place have some history in the global automotive industry so you can study the financial filings of auto makers from past large engine recalls. I think the good news for customers is Toyota is stepping up and doing the right thing for customers at a tremendous cost.

As far as I know, the Tundra is a North America truck. Tundra are sold in Canada, mine was assembled in Texas, and I believe they are sold in Mexico as well. The recall allso apply in Canada and is likely the same in Mexico. A more inclusive analysis should include the true number of Tundra sold in North America that will require an engine change. I made my first engine oil change at 800 KM (500 miles) but did not openned the oil filter as I was not aware of the engine issue. I made my second oil change at 2,023 KM (1,300 miles) and found debris in my filter (one piece was 1 mm square with a fair amount of fine debris). I just completed a third oil change at 5,600 KM (3,500 miles). I wil open the filter shortly to see if there are further debris in the filter. I am in contact with my Toyota dealer on this issue. All this to say that the engine saga is far from over as I expect it will will have to include 2024 models sold across North America as well.

With the amount of money these companies make they should just replace ALL of our engines every 100,000 miles 😂 needed or not... Jk but DAMN look out for the customer 🤷

Toyotas prime days are over Seeing how the new generation has come out. The materials are not better quality the service certainly not gonna be any better in the whole process of getting stuff fixed one of the parts and supplies shortage that’s out there is already another indication that I would not want to go through.

USA emission laws are too strict, or toyota would have brought the same V8 again. Now all these companies have to electrify or Turbo. Vote

Oohh I'm still very unhappy with toyota! Make no mistake about it. Worst truck manufacturer today. I'm glad they are stepping up here. But I'm far from humbled. But I am 100% honest and all fact based. This is a good fact that toyota is currently doing.

Nah worst truck manufacturer is definitely Nissan or Ram
@moshet8424 ай бұрын
@@YerBoyTroy Based on what criteria do you say Nissan and Ram make the worst trucks? Last I heard, Toyota truck owners were jumping ship to Nissan.
@YerBoyTroy4 ай бұрын
@@moshet842 Based on capability you can get/option more with the f150 or GM trucks. The ram dumps all of its budget into being comfortable and plush. This is nice, but not that much nicer than the competition to be compromising so hard on things like payload, hauling etc. on top of that they've had the simplest engine lineup of the bunch for over a decade and yet they could never perfect the Hemi. To this day cracked manifolds and Hemi tick to lifter failure is still common enough of an issue. The way ram has managed their fleet is also not great. They never invested into efficiency early on like ford, GM and Toyota so they got slapped with massive CAFE fines over the last few years, so much so that now they had to ditch the Hemi for good and discontinue their entire performance car lineup. How much do you think they can afford to spend on QA when they've had to be shutting down entire segments of their product line? Mind you this has happened with the other domestics too but those guys were proactive about it, and it wasnt for vehicles that built their brand like with the Charger/challenger. All of this trickles down. RAM, Dodge and Chrysler have all had a rough decade overall. Regarding Nissan, they just don't have the resources to properly compete. You can't just look at the truck segment but look at how the brand performs overall. Titan discontinued, Frontier largely recycled with some new makeup and a modified version of an older engine after 17 whole years. Same thing with the new Z. Armada most folks don't even know what that is. The company is being held together by overly competitive financing on low end economy cars like the rogue and Altima. They don't have the budget to invest in new architecture in the way that Honda and Toyota can. They're struggling in every other segment
