I finally got my 917 out on the road to tune the rebuilt carbs under load.
I also made some new wall art for the shop that is pretty cool.

I remember seeing pictures of a Kraftwerks LMK917 racing at Phillip Island years back. It had 2 flat six engines grafted together to make a flat 12…. Amazing bit of engineering.

Just such a beautiful race car. Nevermind the legendary performance for a second, but let's just just admire the striking beauty of a tiny road missile that only reaches one's waist in height. Something about this car (and a lot of Le Mans based cars from the 60s and 70s) is so genius in its anesthetics, particularly how low, tucked in and compact it is. Those "high cheekbone" front wheelwells, how shrugged up they look compared to the cockpit, hits different somehow. The car is aggressive and striking in some intelligent way that I can't put my finger on.

Bolt two Subaru EZ30 engines together. They will fit. Two 911 engines won't.

Beautiful car! Have you ever tried to find an original 917 engine? Rev's Institute in Naples FL has some 917 engines on stands in their museum. Truly impressive engineering for their day.

First! Awesome car Brian, I bet you have a blast taking that out and running it wide open whenever you can. #1. How heavy is that clutch? #2. Are you double clutching?

It is crazy heavy. I really need to put a longer arm on it at the gearbox to make it easier. Was not double clutching...I just ran out of room too quickly so had to press it back in fast :) Also, it is a bit tricky to launch.

Are Kraftwerks still in business and producing the 917 KIts? Great car.

Kraftwerks only built 26-27 of the 917's. All were rollers minus the engines. Quality of their cars is amazing.

Sorry for the late reply. It was built by Kraftwerks in Australia. Tons of differences between Kraftwerks and RCR. Kraftwerk cars are much closer to the original cars in dimensions and build components.

They are not kits. They were built by Kraftwerks...25 cars total I believe.

Nice but I have driven some true accurate replicas as well as some REAL vintage race cars and with out modern modifications any thing over 20 min is not fun, its torture to be honest. But nice car.

Which 917 kit Company did Kraftwerks use? Icon? RCR? I hope you're not one of these "gate keepers" that won't share information.

Kraftwerks was the first to build these and only did 24-27 cars. You can read about Andrew (the designer) here www.lmk917.com/about/ Andrew built them exactly per the originals. Icon, RCR and others are not per the original cars.
