When one of the voyager’s got out there, scientists were surprised at how hot the atoms were. The atoms were something like 3,600 Kelvin when they thought they’d be 1,800 (not the real/exact numbers). Still, either way, these (apparently hydrogen atoms) are hot. It’s not a million Kelvin, Anton!. Not sure the density, and Anton just said it! .05 atoms per centimeter cubed, here, which actually seems like a lot!

The Fox/Smith low density tunnels could provide more favorable interstellar pathways between certain stars. The spaceships traveling at the high speeds necessary for interstellar trips to be accomplished in reasonable amount of time would encounter fewer atomic or larger particles enroute, thus putting less wear and tear on the bows of those ships.

If you're interested in si-fi implications: these structures have boundaries, which means, in theory, we could design something like a wing, sail, or helicopter to use the density difference for a boost. Whether it's enough to be worth traveling to where these ... let's call them "galactic tradee-winds" are is another matter entirely. Also, the wing-a-ma-jigs would probably be generated by electromagnets, rather than being purely solid structures, but IDK magsails are not my area of expertise.

Whoa! Wow! This might be an additional and important step in an explanation of the Fermi Paradox. The Earth is a rocky planet with a current molten iron core that produces a Star Trek like protective shield against both solar and extrasolar winds and radiation (unlike Mars), within the Goldilocks Zone, around a stable star, has a one-of-a-kind small planet as a moon that provides extraordinary rotational stability, climate and life on Earth benefits (unlike Venus), has a gas giant wondrously positioned to (mostly) protect the Earth from Oort Cloud and Asteroid Belt debris (Jupiter didn't used to be there.) and now, to top it off, Sol System is traveling through a galactic low density bubble, created by a bunch of numerous but ancient (thus not currently dangerous) local supernovae that have provided a "safe space" within which Sol System is traveling, with a much lower probability of bumping into something unpleasant. Earth might very well be a google stupid unlikely phenomenon, which would explain why we have found no evidence of Klingons, Vulcans, a Jedi Empire or a Kardashev anybody, at least in this galaxy. 'Tis obvious, deservedly or not, we are special and are likely unique. Hey, afterall, Earth produced an Anton, how likely was that, galactically speaking?

SFIA fans will talk about megastructures...One thing that a Kardeshev 1/2 could do (that is 'swinging above weight class') is affecting a nebula or overdensity region like this... BEFORE a protoplanetary disc starts collapsing/coalescing...you could go in and 'mine away' material to influence the size/type of star that'll be formed. THEN since most of the disc is still rocks/debris/gasses, you do some 'disc-forming' and move gasses/materials as you want.
