Bit of a fun story, my parents met while working in the cave back when it was still a haunted house attraction. My dad was a set designer while my mom was on the "scare-squad". They had a lot of cool stories about working there but eventually it was closed due to fire and safety hazards. I kind of felt bad showing them this video and seeing all their hard work rotting away in the dark.

Know the tunnels well. Before the Tunnel of Terror, they used to store boats over winter in those caves, until they realized the warm moist tunnels were not good for many of the wooden boats. I often visited the marina across the road and the park just down the road. Remember them bussing in Tunnel of Terror customers from the parking lot on top of the hill, and a donut, hot chocolate, and coffee stand in the parking lot of the marina. When the rear “escape door” suffered a cave-in it was game over. Now blocked off from public access.

I grew up near the caves on the West Side of St. Paul and have explored them hundreds of times while growing up. I remember going through the Tunnel of Terror around Halloween when they would have it going as a spooky attraction when I was pretty young.

In Stillwater there are some bars on the west side of the river that have entrances to caves they use for storage of beer and groceries. My sister-in-law went into a cave one night after closing and got bit by a bat. She had to go through rabies treatments.

It goes for miles
@TCSCskater3 жыл бұрын
it's comprised of 2.6 miles of total tunnel, most are layed out like a grid and range from 20-30 feet high/wide. And yes, that's the sanitorium set, it's scale model of one of the kirkbride buildings but had seen a lot better days, idiots and years of mold haven't done any favors to the place so be careful, there's several spots where people have broken through over the year's (myself included). Also, there was dense smoke through the whole cave that prevents any visibility beyond a few meters last time I was there so be careful, it only gets worse further in. Also, it's technically a mine since a cave by default needs to be natural, and the excavated material was used to melt down like taffy and make windshields on ford trucks in the early 1900's but they later closed this operation and mined out the Sandrock under the now-razed highland plant.

Back in 79 and 80s as teenagers we spent time in the lilydale caves.People had fire pits down in the caves.There was one cave that had a small tunnel filled with spiders and a huge ledge carved out with stairs up and seats carved in th walls. Definitely not a safe place to be.They are sealed off now.
@Weggle3 жыл бұрын
I went to that cave last year!! There’s still an unsealed entrance high up on a hill near a riverside road. Most of the routes have been blocked off with stone and rebar but the stairs are still accessible and have the middle carved out so you can put your feet there and slide down. The top of the stairs has a hands and knees tunnel that leads to a small room about 30ft down but is not accessible due to shattered glass everywhere in the tunnel
