Build and manage a Maximum Security Prison. As the sun casts it’s early morning rays on a beautiful patch of countryside the clock starts ticking. You’ve got to crack on and build a holding cell to detain the job­ lot of maximum security prisoners that are trundling to your future prison on their yellow bus. As your workmen lay the last brick you don’t have a moment to let them rest as they need to get started on the first proper cell block so you can make room for the next prisoner intake. Once they’ve all got a place to lay their weary heads the fun can really start.
You’ll need a canteen, infirmary and a guard room, oh, and don’t forget to plumb in a toilet, or things will get messy, but what about a workout area? Or solitary confinement cells? Or an execution chamber?
Inspired by Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress and Theme Hospital and with over 1 million players having spent time inside, Prison Architect is the world’s best lock-­em-­up.
Story Mode:
Prison Architect opens with the story of Edward, a man facing the electric chair for committing a crime of passion. This is followed by four additional chapters focusing on different characters and aspects of prison life. From Mafia Dons to power-crazed senators, Prison Architect has them all! To bring these characters to life, Introversion teamed up with award winning professional writer Chris Hastings, producing an enthralling tale of corruption and human misery set against the background of the modern prison industrial complex.
Escape Mode:
Finished your supermax? Got guard dogs roving every corridor and prisoners eating out of your hand? Now you can live the horror by firing up escape mode and play as a prisoner hell-bent on getting the hell out of dodge.
Dig a tunnel, go for the armoury or start a riot and slip out in the chaos, it’s entirely up to you! Figure out how to escape from your own creation, or hit the random button and load one of the 12,000 prisons created by the steam community, whichever you choose it’s not going to be easy...

The thing with the dormitory strat is that if you decide to do dormitories you need to be very religious about shakedowns daily. Any less than that is inviting for them to tunnel and leave in an instant. You need to face the fact that you need to throw out their happiness if you want to keep them like chickens in a factory farm. And even shakedowns means that you might not detect the tunnels. The second thing that you need to do is switch your outer walls for a perimeter wall which will slow down tunneling by a lot, I prefer to do a double layered perimeter wall that only opens at the front gate (meaning tunnelers will prefer to dig out via the main gate and thus you can focus more dogs on the main gate to increase the detection chance.) Note that perimeter walls are outdoors only.

I mean that's the major issue with dorms. When they start tunneling (however it is modelled) they are incredibly fast

Dogs cannot detect tunnels through foundations, only on outdoor earth.

Could it be that dogs have a higher chance of detecting tunnels outdoors than indoors?

they inmates are tunneling along water mains which is faster and therefore it takes alot longer to dig outside than inside. as a result they get caught outside more often.

I feel like you at least need to have solitary and you should just bite the bullet and sacrifice your other min security section and make it protected custody you’ll still achieve your goal of 1000 and you could use that extra space to make shared spaces like a chapel or the other things you could not fit. The need for freedom is not an issue because they face no punishment they are always free under this regime and lack of solitary lol

Maybe the dog cannot sniff thourgh/under Concrete floorings/building foundations so they could only find the tunnels outside the buildings. I'm not sure though, haven't played PA for very long time.

100% that’s what it is. I’ve always left open soil between the two perimeter walls with dog patrols. You catch all the tunnels then. If you just have pavement tone dogs miss it. I’ve had the same exp of like 300 prisoners peacing out over night lol.

i would swap the canteen/yard with the dormitories sso that they are more central and further away from the plot limits

The 4 prisoners who didn't make it must be feeling gutted. Perhaps you should consider making the dormitories with only 4 people inside. Even that can have amenities such as a TV, shower and pool table (given they must be at least 16 tiles and beds take up 4, there should be room. However, it is quite expensive so is it a risk you're willing to take?

Even dormatories of 10 or 20 would tunnel less quickly than the current design of over 100 per dormatory. Having smaller dormatories and shared common rooms would probably be more space efficient than big dormatories with all the entertainment in the dormatory.

For the laundry rope problem you could have a guard pat down station outside the laundry so they get searched as they leave, since metal detectors only detect metal

Try to keep the dog patrols primarily at night, and have only a few hours during the day such that the dog guards are less stretched out

Could you separate the patrol routes going around the dormitory to 4 separate ones- one for each side, and then one dog just goes back and forth over one side each hopefully stopping them from getting so tired so quickly? And with them going over the same route over and over again hopefully more likely to catch any tunnels!

17:08 the issue is, they can still get plastic spoons from the canteen. Also a scanner could help with smuggled in stuff

I can't remember if check points are still a thing but use checkpoint with a 1 way halls?

Maybe move the kennel to the new area you built this episode so it's more centralized, or build a 2nd one below reception so the doggo's don't have so far to go and are fresher for the patrols?

18:09 probably, even though this mechanic would suck for these cases (since more patrols don't help) and we need to look into the game files/ask the devs if it is that way

Maybe consider switching the canteen and the dormitory to keep it closer to the center of the map. Also a second patrol path running only on the most critical side of the dormitory (north right now) so that you have guards circling around but others focusing only on the most likely tunneling zone?

Wow that was something. I think 1 reason the dog where tiered was because then went up and then right. Now that you have door at the bottom it is easy for them. I wonder who the 4 people that did not escape where?

This is why Periwinkle is best warden. 50% chance to fully uncover tunnels is OP! The only way to change the Warden mid-game is to edit the txt file for the save. Might be outside the scope of the series, put it a vote.

Here is what happened, i happen to run into this a few times. The floors must be concrete for both indoors and outdoors. 3 wall lays of perimeters, brick, concrete and glass. No fence as they are to easy to bypass.

Do at night dog patrols around the beds to sniff out contraband whilst their sleeping Also that’s a lot of escapes

you can schedule a tunnel check (check toilets) every night if you are afraid of tunnels.

17:30 metal detectors have a cool off period and only scan 1 person at a time. If multiple inmates go through quickly it won’t scan them all. You need multiple detectors separated with a guard in between so they can be searched straight away before hiding the items

It may be an idea to have more than 1 Kennel. So that the dogs don’t need to travel as far to rest and come back to patrol

You can use the roll call button to get Everyone sleeping to stand and guards will identify who’s missing

You could split the big dorm into multiple small ones by adding walls, you should have the space. That means its less digging at once.

I think you should have smaller dormitories instead of the large dormitory section. I would say 4 per. Alternatively, you could also separate the toilets and have a mandatory search before allowing inmates access. Not sure if the game would allow that however.

@@imNalo I see a lot of unused space here which could be used to make this happen. If not small dorms, you could also go with big ones, say 20-40 people each. There should be space for that at least. I am not sure we can get to 1000+ if this keeps happening.

Do you even need toilets in your dormitory? Why not just have a single toilet in it? Then set up a proper shower room (with all the toilets for them). Keep 1 single toilet in the dorm surrounded by 8 guard dogs on patrol. P.S. That infirmary is huge. You could definitely squeeze in a staff room & kennel up there. That'd save your workers time walking back & forth to the far away staff room. Or alternatively, build a path to the staffroom.

Guard dogs don't work indoors, onlly outdoors. That's why it was detected so late.

There has to be something about walking off the border should stop the tunnels because of no usable ground as an exit point. I think (but I don't know) that your letting them tunnel in at the edge because your not walling the actual edge.
