The tenor is a Bad jock but she is an Amazing surprise. There is so much Callas in her, some notes if you close the eyes.....and she never tries to do it so, it just like this. InThe end of the Enigma scène, wich is even more difficult than the aria itself, she is almost perfect. Very few soprano understand the writing like this. I wish i saw her live.

Francesca Patané was a pupil of her mother Rita Patané, who was a voice teacher of some renown in NYC in the 1980s and 1990s. Francesca sang this opera in Philadelphia around the same time as this perf. It was not a great success. Whoever told her she had a “Turandot voice” was definitely misguided.

@@jeffreymiller4814 non è corretto… perché si Francesca è figlia di Rita Saponaro, ma la madre le faceva cantare ruoli leggeri e lirici. Fu la stessa Francesca a studiare da sola e a capire cosa doveva fare per la sua voce. La madre nel corso del tempo la seguiva ma su come Francesca aveva imparato a cantare. Per Turandot ( dato che lei non è preparato a sufficienza ) Francesca si presentò per Liu, ma il sovrintendente le diede Turandot dicendo: se diamo a te la Liu, chi deve fare Turandot ? Parando di voci sempre! Che non fu un successo è il suo parere… Francesca ha cantato quasi 400 Turandot, non credo lei reggerebbe, ed a oggi Francesca è vocalmente INTATTA

Well it's certainly an interesting stage. Takes a little bit to get used to it. I like that Turandot actually had a reaction to each time Calaf got the riddles correct. Most women who played Turondot don't really react very much and I always thought they should. The orchestra needs a little kick in the ass though. They're not giving it enough passion.

Un coro mediocre e inseguro, una sala con una acústicas nefastas. El tenor blando y sin mucha presencia, una puesta en escena de muy dubioso gusto - totalmente evitable.

Sacrifcar los valores operìsticos en funciòn de hacer un espectàcular despliegue de masas y decorados, conduce a un show que no tiene nada que ver con la òpera. Ni Schmitt ni la Patanè dan la talla en sus personajes, especialmente Schmitt que hace un Calaf desastroso. ¡Que pena!
