Corelli,miguel fleta,del monaco might beg to differ,but armiliato is very good,i saw him way back in 1987 i think,in dublin singing in il trovotore and you could tell then he would go on to become a great tenor

Ridiculous ending. Puccini didn't finish composing the music, but he certainly approved of the scenario and libretto which was done under his watchful eye. This is crap.

Is this the best version of Turandot ever? It must be a close contender. Fantastic performance and staging - plus a perfect ending. Wish it was on Blu-ray or DVD. Are there any plans to re-issue this on disc or perhaps a better quality upload. I am immensely grateful to have this at all, but although appearing as 720p, perhaps to squeeze the best out of the copy used, the actual quality is barely 360p and this screams out for better technical quality

What the heck?!? In no version of this story does Turandot kill herself. That's crazy. And the people still celebrate? Not cool. Ruins everything good about this production.

See my reply to Samuel Jaramillo - also the reply by oberon481. Dramatically, textually and psychologically this is a better ending, although admittedly a shock when first seen. As for "the people celebrating" perhaps they are celebrating that the "ice Queen" has finally been defeated. That's one thought. Another is the dramatic effect of the tragedy we see playing out against an unaware populace celebrating - not unlike the ending of "Carmen".

She had said "No man shall ever possess me!" and here she keeps her word.

The complete reversal of her regard to men that is usually portrayed is psychologically unbelievable. Here, she is torn by emotions that deeply conflict with her lifelong stance and she is unable to cope with that inner conflict - the only escape is suicide. A very satisfying conclusion although a surprise when first seen.

@@samueljaramillo4221 Exactly. She found love but it went against all of her prior beliefs and thinking about love and men. The conflict within her is just too much to handle. If you watch her carefully she acts brilliantly and you see her emotions tetering back and forth. She is a brilliant performer. Her first aria, "In questo reggia" (if my spelling is correct) is one of the most difficult in all opera, but just watch her expressions and her movements - she brings more life to that than I have ever seen before, and that brilliance shows through in that final dramatic scene. I was taken aback when I first saw that ending, but I quickly realized just how right it was (if the performer has the acting skill to make it work - which she does).

La cosa migliore ,come interpretazione è quella dei 3 Ping,Pong,Pang! Kalef non bene... Liu non bene Turandot non bene,positiva solo mimica... Orchestra ok.
