Oh man, I love mine so much. Every.... single.... day. I daily it, I thrash it and I drive 2-up 2500km home for xmas. It's a fantastic thing, and it puts a smile on my face each and every minute I drive it. Now, if only I could decide: 2ZZ, 2AR, K20 or 1ZZ+boost....

@@Quagmire925 In UK it is MR-2 Roadster. Like anywhere in Europe. US got MR-2 Spyder. Japan got MR-S Roadster. So it's imported from Japan if it's MR-S in UK ;)

@@Quagmire925 Yes indeed, it was. The thing that compromized sales is basically non-existant boot. Definitely a wrong car for getting grocaries. However, I don't see any trouble doing that :) Such a great car and with a 2ZZ swapped it is the thing it should have been in the beggining. Cheers ;)

Too right. That MR-S in the video was cranking out a power to weight ratio of around 5kg/hp, matching the likes of the Honda NSX, RX7 FD (probably better!) and can probably challenge a stock R32 GTR around the track

What fun! This video is possibly the tipping point inspiration to buy my neighbors 65k mile , 2004 MR2. I LOVED the s2000 my friends had growing up but they’re going for an arm and a leg where as I really feel like people have slept on this guy and I feel like it would never fail to put a smile on my face.

LOL Sam. I agree, the fact that you will spend more money on an NA Miata vs one of these is crazy. 2ZZ with bolt-ons fixes all precat issues :)

Which is hilarious. When the zzw30 first came out and few years after that, sw20 and aw11 owners treated it as a unwanted step child yet it was still a proper mid engine car only way more reliable thanks to the mighty 1zz. Note, when the 2zz is not in lift, it is quantifiably slower than a 1zz. You can see this at autocross events. One of the local pros purposely got a celica gt because of more low end torque and no worry about lift kicking in mid-corner.

I love them so much I've got two, a winter beater MR-S for school runs and shopping trips and a mint facelift MR2 with a few mods for the weekend. Get rid of the space saver in the frunk and they are surprisingly practical and nothing beats the handling at that price.

Great car, it shines in tight corner to corner roads , where the torque is more important than HP. Long straights more open corners HP rules but tight corner extremely short straights this little car is gem. Lighten it throw out everything that's not important. Lower it , stiffen up the chassis and it gets better. 2zz is great mod but in really tight roads you won't be changing gears much.

I believe this is a great looking car. For me it almost looks a bit like a Porsche-Lotus-Toyota mix. I have heard the sitting posision is very similar to a porsche 964

This was a great video and your expertise is evident. I have 3 questions that will feed into my track setup research. 1. Was this W on 200tw? 2. Are these 15" or 16" setup square? 3. What's the weight distribution on the vehicle? It looked rear end biased, so probably, closer to 60% than OEM 57%. Thank you for this video! The induced oversteer looked easily controlled by you.

Yes I am loving these comments from people dismissing it simply due to its look. Keep the zzw30 hidden, so they don't all get destroyed by dumb drivers. Hearing stories about how rare some basic sw20 parts are is ridiculous. 2zz swap and slap on a turbo, or better yet K-series swap and turbo that, 300whp easy.

A K-Swap would be a riot in one of these. There was a K20 special for Hot Version and a K-swapped MR-S was running like around 1 minute laptimes at Tsukuba.

I think this is the trend in U.S that toyota mid engine rear wheel drive cars getting swap by honda K engine. The honda k engine is a good match on toyota mr2 and mrs chassi because the pick power and the low end torque of the K series engine is impressive plus the light weight chassi.

After I have seen that video I really want turbo on mine now. But first I need to beef up my skills and maybe stiffen up chassis. Aaaaaand buy a new car for daily driving because stock MR2 is the best daily I ever had. Well balanced and fun to drive while not being a fuel consuming monster. But I know that someday it will have atleast 200 HP. It is that sweetspot that I desire. ;D

been looking at 1st gen miatas and these, think i'll pick the miata out of the 2 though because FR, also if nobody knows about it you should look up the Techno Spirits MRS on Hot Version touge it's a monster

The 2GR sounds like a riot, but I think that engine would spoil the handling of the ZZW30 'cause its heavier than the 1ZZ and 2ZZ. I guess the major torque increase is also very nice too.

This one is only running 7 psi, but I think they can handle 10-14 psi with good tuning on a full standalone.

Just wanna say for all the 2zz folks out there.... It is a frustrating engine to drive especially on a track like that... The turbo 1zz would be way preferable. 2zzs sorta suck... K swap would be worth the time though. 240whp NA with some decent mid range would rock

If the motor hasn't catastrophically failed then the car is OK lol. It's a common reliability practice to eliminate the precat on these.
