That was quick! Excellent work. No one asked, but: I played X-Sabers. Went 4-4 (though one win was w/o I'll admit). Match 1 (lost 1-2 v Synchro Cat). Really narrow loss. Great match. Match 2 (won 1-0 v Plants). Opponent ragequit because I won so hard in game 1. Match 3 (walkover "win" because opponent no-showed). Match 4 (lost 0-2 v Vayu Turbo). Oversided and was unlucky with DAD. Match 5 (lost 0-2 v Blackwing). Rescue Cat was somehow dead in hand despite having 4 total targets. I still didn't play optimally, though. Unlucky with DAD again. Match 6 (won 2-0 vs X-Sabers). Incredibly important for my confidence to win the mirror lol. Match 7 (lost 0-2 v Blackwing). No monsters in opening hand. Unlucky with DAD. Match 8 (won 2-0 v Dark Gaia). Great comeback game 1. Maintained the momentum and won game 2 as well. Really disappointed I didn't win a single duel vs tier 1, but I think it stemmed from minor misplays, nerves, oversiding and bad luck (and ofc that X-Sabers isn't a meta deck lol). Should be able to improve for the next tournament and beat at least one meta deck, though. Was a fun learning experience.

Played pure blackwings. Went 4/4. Won against 2 vayu turbo, 1 dragon turbo and glads. I lost to rescue cat , another blackwing player, hero beat, and hero zombies. Had very bad luck in several matches. Drew triple sirocco with blizzard in one of the hero beat games. The bw mirror and cat match would have been winnable had I played differently.

Any thoughts on potentially analyzing deck vs deck win rare comparisons? Basically a matrix of deck x vs deck y showing how often deck x beats deck y

I've done that in a couple previous tournament analyses. But I basically donated the matchup table to Beastmode's war league. i think that data is easier to keep track of.

I love seeing data like this. I wish there were people who did it for other events. One question I had is why do you go over “win rate”. Wouldn’t a good measure for success of a deck be if it topped? For examples pure lightsworn had a 56% win rate but 0 topped. Vayu turbo had a 50% win rate but 5 made top 16. I think I’m definitely missing something about win rate and would love to hear your opinion on it.

The conversion rate chart goes over which lists topped. win rate is just another way to measure a deck's success for a given tournament that isn't as binary as topping or not.

As a data analyst, I CANNOT believe you manually input all this. Do you actually manually input every deck to get all these stats?? This is freaking ridiculous and insane dedication.

The manual effort is mostly just categorizing the decks when I glance at them. probably only takes about 1 second per deck. After that the annoying part is inputting the win/loss for each specific deck type, which i could probably automate, but i haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

It's not just Americans. 3 of the top 4 players from this tournament are from the EU. We had lots of representation from all over the globe.

@@CrowsNestRetroYGO issue with mind control is that it doesn't jive well with running double vayu which has become the norm. The list with one mistral and one vayu is the one that benefits the most from mind control.
