The day has finally come! 3 months to the date of buying the trailblazer as a bone stock 87k mile vehicle, it made dyno pulls in its new boosted form and is an absolute BLAST to drive!
I cannot thank Jeremy enough for taking the time and effort to really diving into this platform. Please reach out to him at ‪@Fasterproms1‬ for atlas tuning! You can find his contact info online. give him a call and he can help you out, even remotely! You will not be disappointed i can promise you that!
Thanks to everyone who has been instrumental in this build as well. I would have not accomplished this without you. some are listed below but there are many may more!

‪@artecperformance9335‬
‪@snakeeaterperformance‬
Stay tuned for track testing! Plus we are already working on the next version of this, which includes flex fuel, an air to water intercooler setup, and drivetrain upgrades!

@@willsteele9249 We are considering offering a tuner kit... it would be the main parts needed such as the manifold, the turbo, and feed/return lines, map sensor, and oil feed mod fittings. then the buyer would have to fab their own downpipe/charge piping. but it would be about 3500 for that kit. so people may not be interested.

They call the atlas 4200 the "amerabarra"..I call it the American 2J..she needs to be on fueltech,E85,twin turbskies and 20lbs of boost.(I think the stock bottom end)will easily handle this.because of cyl.head design the block should be O-ringed tho.😮😂

I have a 2005 trailblazer, picked it up for a song in hard times 10 years ago. That engine and driveline have been an absolute unit. No performance anything, bone stock, but i have towed my tractor and bush hog back and forth from my place to the inlaws so many times with that rig, and it never complained once. I have been impressed and have wondered if a fellow could hang a turbo on it and tune it, but not so much to race or be fast, but to pull hills with maxed out gvw without dropping gears. I feel as complicated and hidious as the diesel emissions have become, the industry is probably gonna be leaning to forced inducted gas engines for heavy duty light truck stuff. It has been a long time since i had the time, and never really had the budget to hop anything up, but if i ever get back where i do, this is on my list.

This thing is sick! Avoid using the A4wd. It will break the shift fork in the transfercase. ( In order to add low range to these t-cases, NV had to cut size in a few spots. Slightly smaller clutch pack and a smaller, thinner engagement fork were part of that. A4wd will slip the clutch pack more while trying to engage and if it hooks too hard, the clutch pack will kind of surge back and break the engagement fork. That's why the TBSS was never offered in 4wd. Only AWD, or 2wd. Straight 4WD high on that puts the clutch pack to 100%. No slip 😉)

I only pulled the 16:1 SS steering rack for my envoy. The SS has frame rot and 200k but the rest of truck including drivetrain and interior is still nice. I’m converting to 9” rear in my envoy right now. it’s 03 slt Rwd has a GMPP LSX 454 and 4l80e swapped into it. I have a 5.3 97x too. I still have my envoys 4200/4l60e it’s got 260k but the truck has never seen snow, never missed oil change. I’m second owner. I got it with 60k few years ago. It’s SLT tan sandalwood exterior with the two tone option sandalwood interior truck is so nice. It was bagged but I literally just ordered the ksport bell tech coilovers tonight. @J-Whit
@J-Whit 10 ай бұрын
It can be done cheaper than I did it. The most expensive part is the artec manifold being 1800 bucks. But you could decap your stock injectors and use those vs. Going with aftermarket like I did. Could probably make an intercooler setup cheap but I wanted to get this thing done as quick as possible. Then build off it while it ran. I would advise a 3" exhaust over 4" as that will make your life much easier in terms of making the downpipe.

My friend had one of these and I told him the motor was a good one but the 4x4 had issues working. I also read the 4x4 shaft or disconnect ran through or was attached to the oil pan because the motor is so tall. This causes all kinds of issues supposedly....so the 2 wheel drive is the way to go? I have watched some videos of these 4 valve motors built to pump out over 800 rear wheel HP.

Yea calvin has made a ton of power with them, even in stock form. I was worried about the 4wd at first but there is a guy who has an awd foxbody using the same front diff/oil pan making way more power and he hasn't broke yet. His car also isn't 4500lbs so maybe that's a reason lol. But the tbss front diff is the same way I believe, I could be wrong.

@@J-Whityeah for sure i been wanting more people to start building this platform for along time because it deserves the support and it has so much potential. It’s kinda crazy how many people you can embarrass when they are stock people don’t realize its 300hp more or less. Calvin’s brought so much attention and I think he proved it can make big power with so much being stock internally. The aftermarket gets going and quickly people can’t deny it should be making 2jz power or more with the much larger displacement and built internals imo. And they so much better then the SS becuase I can go to my local junkyard and pull 8 4200 engines tomorrow for dang near nothing or buy entire trailblazers for 1500-2500 while the ss ones are 7-15k like ridiculous! Is this gonna remain a daily sleeper or are you going to gut the interior?

I may do some videos for science with extensive weight reduction, but it will remain a fully daily driveable vehicle. i love having something i can haul the family in and still enjoy.

I know this is better but I was thinking about this or the 3800 with a turbo for my suburban just because maybe get better mpg probably not still close to 6000 lbs but the 3800 is easily to work on I just don't have much experience with the over head cams and with a turbo and gaped rings 4 or 500 hp are not really a big deal and would be more than the stock 5.3l makes

Maybe a dumb question, but who owns the tune after a session...the customer or the tuner? I ask because I wouldn't mind doing an exact build and would be interested in a copy of the tune. I know that has value and would of course expect an appropriate channel dono or remote tuning fee. I am in Texas so that's a bit far to travel.
@J-Whit
@J-Whit 8 ай бұрын
So it depends on the tuner. The tuner can choose to lock the file or not.

@@J-Whit roughly how much money you got in it for the build. I'm guessing 2 to 3 grand if you had to pay for custom work. I'm a welder so I know I can save some money building my own exhaust and making a custom intake. I wouldn't trust the plastic one holding up for long lol
@J-Whit
@J-Whit 9 ай бұрын
@steveandrews1982 the intake has actually been proven to be very strong. It's held I want to say 30psi. 20 and below it's going to be fine. With tuning, the artec manifold, turbo, injectors, meth kit etc. I'd say I have about 4200 into it. Thag includes buying an hp dongle and credits plus dyno time. Also includes my injectors which you really don't need if you're going to be making 500whp. You can decap the stockers. I just plan to turn it way up in the future.

Biggest down side to the 4200 is the bell housing is not a typical gm pattern and the 4l60e behind it. Great engines!
@J-Whit

That Is a draw back. But the silver lining is the dowel pins are in the same spot as a sbc. So its not terribly difficult to make an adapter. I may do a Manual swap using an ar5 colorado bell housing.

So is the consensus that chemical intercooling wasn't enough?
@J-Whit
@J-Whit 8 ай бұрын
It's good enough, but there is a lot of power left on the table with where the temps get by the end of a pass. To shave off 100degrees it will pick up like 50whp. And be safer.

you can disable it in HP tuners. so now when its off, its really off. on the dyno though the abs freaks out when it sees wheel speed really high on the rear and none on the front. its not uncommon to have to pull the abs on many late model cars when on the dyno.
