Today we upgrade the turbo and several other parts in the 1.4 Chevy Sonic, but not to add more power, instead we are going for maximum fuel efficiency!

Use HP tuners to set the coolant temp to 90 degrees Celsius. For best fuel efficiency under low load they run at like 107. This will help it from pulling timing when it’s heat soaked

I decided to try maxing out the MPG on my '13 Sonic RS ( exact same engine stock) got 43 MPG simply by not getting on the throttle and keeping it under 2.5K on the tach. Great little car for the MPGs

I know this is a year old video, but wanted to chime in for those who might come across this. I come from the fiat 1.4 turbo world. If one of the codes is P0299, wastegate is the common failure point on the fiat abarth's. from factory they're adjusted incorrectly AND the diaphragms tear easily. The easy fix on the fiats is a turbosmart wastegate with a 7psi preloaded spring. I've wondered about this with the sonic

Having owned a 2015 sonic just like that, I'd say the biggest issue is GM not installing a front motor mount. This causes excessive engine movement snd will eventually shear off the plastic coolant housing on the driver s side of engine. Luckily you can get a lower rear engine brace from racerXfabrication, a Michigan company. I beleive they call it a sonic engine rotation delete.

I have a 2016 I’ve had to change my mounter mounts bc of exceeeive engine shake only lasted 30k miles and the shakes back yiu think adding this rotation delete mount would help it ?

Have a Chevrolet Cruze in the family and it has had quite a few issues. Already on Second engine, constant coolant hose connector issues and worst of all, LOTS of turbo failures. The turbos were covered by warranty. First one failed and the dealer replaced it just for the second to fail while they were testing it. Third one failed and was covered again and was covered too. No warranty and on the Fourth.

Hollow out the CAT and dont tell the cops... The blow by pushes a lot of oil vapor through the inlet and that causes nasty carbon build up there
