What kind of string do you use I've tried elastic, a shoelace type, and fishing line but mine never stays at a shape like that it kind of stacks up, I follow step by step!

I use a string called S'getti strings, It's a round plastic lace and works great!

What is your favorite string material? How can I keep patterns from curling??

i would use either, magic loops or speghetti strings, for the strings, use a toothpick for a few rows to keep it straight. check out the turbobeads fox tutorial or snoopy tutorial for toothpick technique. make sure string is round not flat.
