Ive been building turbo assisted jet engines to power various things for nearly thirty years now. I was a fighter pilot, flying the F-15C, and then I flew for continental airlines for about 25 years before retiring, which is what lead to my jet engine building hobby. I would suggest going to your local junkyard and buying used Saab turbos, which seem to hold up very well and are easy to plumb. Using exhaust tubes and components as well as the turbos from diesel engines seems to work best. I built jet bicycles, jet gokarts for my kids, jet boats, even several jet ultralight aircraft and a jet skateboard. Its a great hobby and if you spend wisely you can build jet engines very cheaply!

Technically because there’s no turbine wheel/“hot side” and only the compressor/“cool side”, it’s actually more like a centrifugal supercharger than a turbo
@Idontrunntoofast3 жыл бұрын
@The Cone Boy No Alex is right, there is no turbo here. only a electric driven Centrifugal Compressor. ProCharger is a Brand that (among many other things) makes belt driven and crank driven gear ratio increased Compressors (Superchargers) a "Turbo" or "Turbocharger" is a Turbine powered Centrifugal Compressor (Centrifugal Supercharger). Turbines can be driven by Water, Air or other gasses.. in this case the extremely hot exhaust gasses from an engine. the gasses spin up the Turbine which is connected by a common shaft to the Centrifugal Compressor which forces more air into your engine intake. When this is tuned with the proper addition of fuel this in turn helps you obtain greater combustion forces. but long story short... this is a Centrifugal Compressor (supercharger) not a turbo.
@Roach803 жыл бұрын
@The Cone Boy that is what a centrifugal supercharger is procharger just a brand
@Lausebengl3 жыл бұрын
@@Idontrunntoofast A belt driven turbo is a (edit: centrifugal) supercharger, and belt driven turbos are commonly known as prochargers. So he is actually kinda right.
@Idontrunntoofast3 жыл бұрын
@@Lausebengl No, he is absolutly Wrong and now you are as well, You are confused about turbos and what they are. The word turbo is just short for turbosupercharger which infact is just a Turbine Driven Supercharger. The supercharger part of this system happens to be a Centrifugal Supercharger, but if you were able to use that same turbine to drive a roots or screw type positive displacement supercharger you know what you would have? You would Still have a Turbosupercharger, otherwise known as just a "Turbo" Again I covered all this in my previous comment that you replied to but you must not have read it.. so I am going to go over it again but this time simple enough that anyone can follow. A BELT DRIVEN TURBO DOES NOT EXIST. BECAUSE THE TURBINE, THE VERY THING THAT MAKES A "TURBO" A "TURBO" ISNT USED. Again what you are thinking of is a Belt Driven Centrifugal Supercharger. (IT IS NOT A TURBO) Additionally they are not "othewise known as Prochargers" procharger is just a brand that makes Centrifugal Superchargers.. they are just one brand, they arent the most common, they dont sell the most, they havent been around the longest they arent even the most well known. Tell me have you ever heard of Paxton / Vortech? Paxton is the original centrifugal supercharger company, they have been building them for almost 90 years. They have many OEM customers. They literally outsell Procharger by millions of units. Know how long procharger has been around? Less than thirty years. They are just making a name for themselves, they are a great company and they sell a very high quality product. But the name is nowhere as recognizable in the field as Vortech / Paxton. So just to reiterate, 1. A "Turbo" is a turbine driven supercharger. 2. There is no such thing as a belt driven "Turbo" 3. Belt driven centrifugal superchargers are not "commonly known as prochargers" following that logic they would be more accuratly called "Vortechs" or "Paxtons"

@@nikkofpv2902 a realistic one? Not the ones with spinning walls.
@nikkofpv29024 жыл бұрын
@@04karit0 all tornado machines need air flow.... to not have spinning walls or fans you would need 1 fan on top of a chamber as a suction point. The chamber walls would need to be gapped at the corners so incoming air all flows in the same direction creating a vortex cone air flow system and a way to not burn the fan on top. Fire source can't be controlled it must be a free flow fire . Meaning no torches or air gas. Must be a liquid fire or a solid (wood) fire
@04karit04 жыл бұрын
@@nikkofpv2902 yep, you are absolutely right, I was talking about the ones with an exhaust fan at the top(and an air supply one at the bottom, near a fogger), as I mentioned in a previous comment. And it actually takes care of creating a low pressure area at the top and introduces a spin to the system. And since the rpm can be controlled, it's adjustable to create more realistic tornadoes. Now the problem of fire damaging the exhaust fan can be solved by replacing the fan at the top with a metal(or printed with ceramic filament?) tube. With fan being safely located at the other end of it. This will create a strong suction but will not introduce any rotation to the system. But we still have a bottom pump that pumps air into the system, so we can simply place it tangentially, so the air has some initial velocity. I am actually quite curious what will happen if you have both, water mist and propane fire there. It will take some time for these fog droplets to evaporate, so we could see some cool visual effect.

@@Azzysdesignworks Brass would be more practical, but titanium would be even less practical than cast iron. But way, way cooler! (metaphorically speaking) In all seriousness though, I think aluminum would be a better choice than brass. The melting point is lower, but thermal conductivity, reflectivity and cost is better, and the workability is decently close. Aluminized steel would give you some of the benefits at even lower cost, but it's only commonly available for automotive exhaust and stove piping. That said, I think anything other than stainless steel would be more trouble than what it's worth. It can handle the heat and corrosion without worry, and it's not impossible to deal with. I do think aluminum would really work, but then cooling and thermal design becomes absolutely essential to keep the thing from melting over a descent run. If only asbestos didn't cause cancer. Now that would be helpful.

Bernoulli is your friend when it comes to flow, nozzles, and such. The issue with the glove is that because it's an enclosed space, it can only pressurize it to the point where the pressure inside the glove is equal to the pressure capability of the ducted fan. It's the same with the nozzle - by ramping it down over such a short distance to such a small outlet, the pressure builds up until it exceeds the capability of the fan and then the flow will come back out. Also, technically, an externally powered inlet compressor is a super-charger, not a turbo-charger. A turbo-charger has a turbine spun by exhaust gases that drives the compressor. Super-chargers are often seen on old school muscle cars as that thing sticking up out of the hood with a belt down the the engine - the super-charger is driven from the accessory pulley, as opposed to a turbo being driven by an exhaust powered turbine (which is the same in a jet engine, just laid out differently, and with a different combustion cycle).

@@teslacoil4335 Short pulses of very high pressure may be sustainable though. Perhaps an ideal frequency may exist that could be sustainable using currently available materials. I am high and thinking fantastically at the moment, but considering vortex mechanics, material properties may permit short bursts of extreme pressure while being cooled enough to reduce cumulative stresses. This is, of course, purely speculative, and would require experimentation. I am reminded of Robert Murray Smiths' video on a Boronic fusion reactor generating current from beta decay in an electron cloud as I type this.

As per ToT musings of 2016, and something a little more "polished" in RasterArt - of"3d Hybrid" 2018... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZXEYY1vn5eGmKs&ab_channel=3DHybrid (It appears ToT was making the "error" - (limited drive axes) of relying on the MG welder manual feed for filament control.) - We all learn from those who edit and post their experiments. (It can be done for a lot less than the Mega$$ Machines available for industry - we the "hobbyists" have the tools available)

You should look for the optimal ratio of propellant and air, then do some *BIPBOP* with a calculator and feed it to the arduino. That should make it more OPTIMissed. _Hit that thumbs up, i'll make a 3D Printer with that 3D Printer_

Just a tip, the wider the front of the compressor turbine housing the more air in can take in and being it’s turbines diameter is larger it’s surface area of air grabbing blades.
