Glad to see you on the mend buddy and to see you are being somewhat responsible with your recovery. I got my arse kicked by the physio for trying to do too much with my arm. I fell about 4 nights back and put my hands out to stop me from nutting the carpet,, not nutting on the carpet, well I have put my recovery back a bit as it's as painful as ever. But I was doing good as I was managing to exercise with a 500ml bottle as a dumbbell. Your operation has been some serious reconstruction brother, please don't be a fanny like me and do too much as it will just add weeks if not months to your recovery pal. Well take care but good to see you back in front of the camera. I've got a suggestion for you, you clearly are an extremely intelligent gentleman why not tell your story and let us know how you gained your engineering prowess? Then maybe do a proper shop tour with all the tools you have gathered over the years and tell us what the more unusual ones are used for. I'm trying to think of things to keep you going without doing too much with the busted wing buddy. Anyway all the very best from Scotland pal.

Love a whiskey myself what’s that one like, I’m not a fan of the Smokey stuff. I’m an Irish whiskey lover. The oil filter was my interest a question was going to be how does the stainless take to solder but you answered that. I’d love one of those spot welders they are way too expensive for the small amount of use it would get. I need to get some tig time in. Glad your healing pretty well I’m suprised your taking it easy, my guess was you would be lifting and over doing it. Enjoyed the filter video.

This medira finish isn't smokey and has a bit of marmalade aftertaste, pretty subtle, definitely smoother and cleaner than bushmills. I'm going to continue messing with stainless and solder, I'll update you if I have any success. A fellow KZbinr (Julian hg) emigrated and gifted me 20 full sheets of 1mm steel so I looked around and vevor were doing cheap spot welders, it made sense at the time, I really didn't need it but it's been a lot of fun.

There's a challenge, making a puddle of silver solder to dip it in, I read since that especially strong flux is important too, I just used plumbers flux.
@smithbuilt
@smithbuilt Жыл бұрын
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 yep bit of silver solder will do wonders. Warm the mesh a little to Pre flux it, warm the rod, dip in flux then flick the torch over it to get a little glow and pop the rod against it. If you keep the end suspended it will turn out nice and even also dont over do the solder.... but that spot welder is just so quick and easy, plus the last time I ordered a pack of silver solder 7 years back it was nearly £1k I dread to think what it is now.

That's all mighty impressive, particularly the oil pick up filter thingy, that's a bit of a cracker - not sure what solution I'd have come up with for the same problem, but I'd have been chuffed if it was half as good as that. I like the melting pot of solder idea, not that it worked on this occasion, but it could come in handy. On a different subject, have you ever played with petrol blow torches? I'm used to the paraffin ones but petrol just seems that tiny bit more scary. I picked up a little petrol one at the weekend - doesn't have a pump, just relies on the heat causing the liquid in the tank to expand. It says Benzolene Petrol only on the side of the tank, and I've got another one by the same manufacturer (Monitor) that says Paraffin only, so it's definitely wanting some form of petrol - probably that old mix they called "Motor Spirit" or something like that!!!! ....and finally, nice to see the arm progressing well, it's really handy that you can use it a bit because if you're anything like me you'd be going crazy if you actually couldn't do stuff at all!!!!
@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006
@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 Жыл бұрын
Yes I've got a couple of little siervert torches, will start fueling with hand warmth if there's sufficient temperature differential but only one works, the needle on the other is knackered, really it's more like a whisker, the remnants of the broken one crumbled in my fingers so be bloody careful, can't find any info on replacing it, appears crimped into the shaft. Fire up instantly but don't put out a fraction of the heat of a paraffin torch and they're surprisingly dirty ie they leave a bit of soot, waste avgas worked fine, forecourt petrol is more volatile so should work better. I have no idea of best practices around these things but my concern is damaging some very fine components rather than a fire or anything, they are pretty tame. Benedict has more experience/interest with blow lamps than I do, I've just accumulated them with various piles of old tools and the magpie inside me liked them too much to move them along. Are the engraved operating instructions legible still? I remember them being simple but important ie. The sequence of cap and needle opening and closing but can't remember off the top of my head, will happily have a look for you tomorrow though if you want.
@GrumpyTim
@GrumpyTim Жыл бұрын
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I'll give mine a little rub tomorrow to see if there are any instructions lurking under the dirt. From a quick glance the needle looks ok, I've already made a new washer for the fuel cap because that had gone hard and was leaking. I'll let you know how I get on......
@GrumpyTim
@GrumpyTim Жыл бұрын
@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 I'm still here - didn't blow myself up - in fact it was all pretty tame in the end. I decided to do an initial test to make sure nothing leaked using paraffin - as you might expect, there's nowhere near enough vaporising surface to get the paraffin to vaporise, so that just worked (like they all can) as a mini flame thrower. Swapped over to petrol and tried again, and once it had ejected the remaining paraffin from the pickup pipe it did exactly what it should do, nice and simple. Guess I'll do a video sometime but I'd need to point out the differences - might not be a good idea if people threw petrol into torches that were designed for paraffin only!!! Cheers for the information, I wanted to hear from someone who'd run a petrol torch before I gave it a go. I know Ben has got the petrol stove or two, but I think all his blow torches are paraffin.

@@turboconqueringmegaeagle9006 Yep, anything to relieve the boredom of stripping paint - something I've been doing far too much of over the last week or so while I'm doing some renovation work on a neighbours old garage - and I can't really use a flame on this stuff, so I'm using my infrared paint stripper - awesome bit of kit, but it doesn't do much to relieve the tedium.......
