The fact that the cards were placed in jewel cases always impressed me the most of this system. The use of cases similar to audio/video formats hadn't quite been utilized totally until the mid 90's I noticed, if only once we got into CD-based games and the use of universal cases started to become popular.

Thanks so much for the compliments. I find myself slipping a swear in once in a while (especially when my "Angry Nerd-ness" came out in the Darkwing Duck episode, ugh!). But, I don't feel you need to all the time as long as your information is concise, the editing clean and you always show "why you feel the way you do." You know? Thanks again!

Excellent video. I just got a used TG-16 from value village as well as a few games last week. I regret trading my original for a genesis back in 91 so I'm really enjoying games like Blazing Lasers, Alien Crush, Galaga 90, and Bonks Adventure. Keep up the great videos. Really enjoy!

We had a used TurboGraphx 16 a long time ago. If we do have it still, it doesn't work anymore. I played it for only a brief period, but I really loved this system. It had its charm, and I liked the format of the games (being a thin chip). I liked the design of the system, as well as some of the games I played including Dungeon Explorer, Devil's Crush, Splatterhouse, and World Class Baseball. I do have some of the games on Virtual Console, but I feel like owning the system once again.

i didn't have a TurboGrafx 16, but you showed me that this system was awesome and i set out to track one down. the only problem was that i live in europe and the tg16 was never released there, so i had to track down the rare pal version. it was very awesome when i opened the sealed box and played blazing lazers for the first time.

Hey! Thanks so much. I have such a nostalgic tie to the system, you know? I know that I am in the "minority" (especially being a fan back in the old days as well). But, I can't help but look back fondly on those times. It's a fun side-hobby and I'm glad that I can do it. Thanks for watching!!!

Hey there! Thanks for the kind words. What I would do is buy an American "TurboDuo." That's what I use right now to play and record the games (the original system you see in this review and CD attachment is stored away). Then, get a Japanese HuCard converter (about $100, you can see the one I use in the Ninja Gaiden import review) to play Japanese cartridge games. The American CD will play pretty much all Japanese CD games so...........that should get you covered!

Very cool video but the Turbo Pad was actually quite different from anything everyone else was doing. The standard Turbo Switches were quite frankly revolutionary for the time...and this coming from a Genesis diehard is a huge compliment. The Genesis controllers were by far very different than the Turbo Pad. The Turbo Grafx 16 controllers were very much that old world way of thinking that evaporated once the Genesis and Snes hit the scene. Technically while Sega's 3 button configuration was abandoned in early 1993 it was a change from the old. It basically moved the philosophy on controllers to where they are today. Not so much the 3-buttons but how ergonomic it was in 1989. I have been playing my Core Grafx Mini nonstop for the past 5 days and my hands actually hurt. While I love that machine, I think the boxed design of the controller has truly overstayed its welcome with me. I am looking to buy another controller tomorrow for my Core Grafx Mini that hopefully is more rounded...my 39 year old hands don't move like they used too.

You were lucky too because you got the system on sale for that 100 dollar deal. I got the system at launch when all the prices were just insane. I was really pissed when I had to buy a Turbo Tap and a extra pad just to play with a friend.

I remember the displays being brightly orange the way they had the TG-16 presented with that video demo running of the games for it. Not sure if they had one out with a game for you to play or not, but I recall wanting it at first if only for the few games they had that peaked me like R-Type.

Nice collection! I still have my TG-16, all my games, and the CD-ROM add on. Keith Courage was the game that drew me to the console! But my favorite game on this system is CHEW MAN FU. JJ & JEFF is also a favorite of mine. Y'S BOOK I & II, and FIGHTING STREET were my favorite CD titles. Wish I picked up the Super CD System card so I could play the Super CD games, but alas I never sent away for one. Oh well.

My brother bought ours from toys r us for about 50ish bucks with an additional 2 games. Of course since he was a sports game nut he got jack Nicklaus golf and hit the ice. He did, however, also get Bonks Revenge and Victory Run for 20 more bucks. All said it was a system, 5 games, a turbo tap and an additional controller for about a hundred bucks.

@spida1a Hey, the NeoGeo had the option for a free game along with the AES system (either Baseball Stars, or NAM 1975 just to name a few...) except Magician Lord (the Pack-In Game) was a MUCH better packing than Keith Courage in Alpha Zones.

I remember choosing what to get for my bitrthday back in the 90s a turbo grafx 16 or a sega genesis. I went with the sega genesis which is the model 2 that came with sonic 2 game. I still own it and it works great still. I wish I got the turbo grafx 16 but I liked sonic more. Might pick up a sega nomad if I do then im going to do a screen mod on that cause the original screen is pretty bad.

Have you checked the box of your CD-Rom for the cover of the console? Maybe you put it in there back then when you just got it... Also, I recently bought a PAL TurboGrafx mostly because of your great review videos :-). It came with Blazing Lazers and now it seems that sooner or later I'll have to get a US one to "properly" play the games in 60Hz and to have the chance to use the CD Add-on...

@Stevespeeze Well, right. I am very aware of this. The PC-Engine was WAY more popular there than here so...there isn't really as much stuff to collect from the US.
