Anybody else get strong Gauntlet vibes from Gomola Speed? From the walls and mazes to the exit square… 🤔 that little detail aside, it does look like serious fun.

I live in Taiwan, which is technically PC Engine territory. All the games and hardware you find in retro stores here are Japanese. I am an intermediate Japanese speaker, so while I'm not playing any RPGs (though I did slog through Tokimeki Memorial, which was on the PC Engine first!) Japanese menues and back story are no issue for me. I'm a long-time owner of the PC Engine, and enjoy most of the games in this video. But there were 2 or 3 I hadn't heard of (or hadn't considered) that I'll definitely be checking out. Thanks for covering these! I'm always down for PC Engine content.

Prob one of my favorite vids you’ve done in awhile! The cameo was excellent, I loved his effects and narration. Given my Turbo/PC engine library is emulation it’s nice to see titles selected for me with vids like this! And Super Skweek on the Lynx was also my first intro 🤷🏼‍♂️ Seriously enjoyed this and glad to see it’s doing quite well!

Nice finds; a couple of these I didn't really know about beforehand. Speaking of hidden gems, if only some wonderful localizer out there would make an English translation of Legend of Xanadu 1 and Legend of Xanadu 2 for the PC Engine CD; maybe someday.

I'm still a bit new to your channel so I don't know if you've talked about these before or not, so apologies if you have, but the two Alice In Wonderland games are worth a mention. 1. Fushigi no Yume no Alice which translates into The Fairytale Dreams of Alice. It's a 2D side scroller that does have an fan made English translation patch. 2. Marchen Maze which I believe translates into Fairytale Maze (Marchen is a German word not Japanese). It's a really weird, but really cool, vertical shooter where you play as Alice.

@@Johnnygrafx My PC Engine isn’t quite right, but despite my best efforts, the thing just refuses to die! I imported my IFU-30 CD-ROM-ROM setup early this year to my PAL neck of the woods. After sorting out the power brick, I was delighted to find out that CDs span fine, without a need to source the dreaded “cog of death”. The console worked, but since I am in the land of PAL, the image was monochrome. I burned a couple of CDs to find out if the thing was worth investing time into, and it seemed OK (foreshadowing!). I designed a custom no-drill RGB mod for the IFU-30, ordered a PCB from China, and modeled a 3D-printed plastic part to replace the original RCA port insert. The mod looks as it was factory-made. Image colors are fine, albeit well-known oversaturation, quality is bearable. However, you may imagine my joy, when I found out that those couple of CD games I tested were the ONLY two that worked! It turned out that IFU-30 RAM had a faulty module. Bought a bunch of RAM chips. Tried testing those with the piggyback method - did not work. Had to resort to tearing out a random chip and replacing it with a new one. When doing the first chip I found that the RAM PCB is of poor quality and I lifted the traces. Content with finally killing the dreaded thing, with having nothing to lose, I ratsnested the module with wires, and to my horror the thing sprung back to live! I now have a working RAM, but during my poking around, the save memory demised - it only holds for only 5-10 minutes after shutdown. I might have shorted out something, or the savegame capacitor is pushing up the daisies. I ordered parts for a FRAM mod. When I’m in it, perhaps I’ll recap the whole thing - perhaps that’s what finally kills it?

not PCE exclusive, but Veigues Tactical Gladiator was one of the few TG16 games I had as a kid and one of my favorites. Really good graphics, music is pretty good. Controls take some getting used to (playing with an arcade stick helps), but like a lot of mecha games, they're fun once you do get used to them
@Johnnygrafx

In rabio lepus to deal with those power ups that fall below the floor. Punch them instead of shooting them. That will bounce the item out in front of you instead of it dropping down like they do when you shoot them canister. In fact because of that it's usually a good idea to punch all of those power up cans when it's possible. You loose half your power ups by shooting them.
@Johnnygrafx

@@Johnnygrafx I think I figured it out by accident. Because it automatically punches when you're close to something. Like how you swing your sword when you get close to an enemy in lords of thunder. And I probably punched one by accident. But I'm pretty sure that's how it works. I will have to go back and play it again to see if I'm remembering right

Rabio Lepus was released in the Arcades worldwide, but because Turbografx-16 was a flop outside of Japan, i bet this is why they never released it. It's a similar logic to many Sega Saturn ports such as Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night to never see outside of Japan.
