We remove many more lawns than we plant these days. When we do a lawn removal, that will be replaced other plant material, we follow you same process of using a herbicide to kill off the existing bermuda lawn. But if possible we try to rototill the dead lawn back into the soil, with add soil amendments of course. This helps in the cost of hauling away and paying dumping fees. We think the add organic material will help in the soil structure. This also depends on the soil grade and if it will handle the extra material. Landscapes with large laws are easier than small landscapes like in your video. Love the videos, Keep them coming!!!

Your video could not have shown up at a better time for me! From the time I mentioned my dislike for a regular lawn and the reasons why I'm not a lawn-fan, people have felt kinda rubbed the wrong way. It started with 'Why do you want to do it so differently than all of us?' and 'Oh c'mon, lawns aren't all that bad' and now as I get closer to starting my project, 'It's going to be hard /a wasted effort/ blah blah' 😅 When your video showed up it cheered me up and felt like a sign to keep at it! So, thank you for sharing this timely video. Now I'll go and look up this ground cover you mentioned here!

YASSS! Meant to be! 🙌💚 If that is not a sign to remove your lawn then idk what is. The saying that first comes to mind is "haters are my motivators." Don't let the naysayers extinguish your gardening energy & inspiration! Thank you for watching our video and taking the time to leave such a nice comment. So happy to hear that we cheered you up - you also made my evening with this comment 😊 We actually made a video about kurapia previously if you want to check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaXdp3eNd7yJlZo Do you live in California, too?

We had let our grass die due to the drought in Ca. it is still dead in the backyard, but after the rain of 2017 we were told the drought was over and that we were allowed to have a front lawn again, we hired a local guy who by himself he removed about 600 sq ft with a pick and shovel, if was very hot, 107 plus, after that he put down sod, we were blessed with rain, nothing like rain for irrigation especially in So Cal. Are lawn did well we had some issue with recurring weeds that the only way to get rid of was to pull them so we spent a year doing that. We had some die off and I did a re seed in the fall, if I have to say so we have the nicest lawn on the street. I offer to help my neighbors as well. I watched the videos on how to, I made a plan and I stuck to it. Thanks for another great video I have already won so I want to sit it out. Thanks again.

We appreciate you telling your story regardless of the contest :) Rain after applying sod in So Cal....perfect timing! What kind of grass do you have in the front lawn? Sticking to a plan tends to be the hardest part, in my opinion, but also the most vital. May your lawn continue to make your neighbors green with envy 💚

@@JohnandBobs I have a tall fescue lawn, my neighbor just reached out to me and I am going to help him re do his front lawn. Do you think we can re seed his lawn now? I am in the IE in So Cal. Zone 9A.
@JohnandBobs2 жыл бұрын
@@Moondoggy1941 I think you could re-seed fescue now in your zone, but you'd get better results waiting to do the actual seeding in about 2 weeks. Preparing now would be great. Also, when you seed this early results are much better when you use about a1/8" thick layer of compost or organic matter or Amend as a top dressing over the seed and Blend. Then spray over the 1/8" thick organic matter with our Penetrate Liquid Biotiller. Then water lightly every day while sun is out for best germination.

I am converting my front lawn and have a few questions about your process. For weed control, why didn’t you use weed fabric? How many inches of mulch did you use over the soil? Were all the drip lines buried under the mulch? Thank you so much for these videos.
@kelsiegodwin30702 жыл бұрын
I just watched your video on weed fabric, so that answers that question. But how can you get enough thickness of mulch to prevent weeds without smothering a small new plant? Our “lawn” that we are converting is primarily weeds and poorly taken care of grass. We are using glyphosate to kill it but I’m still so worried about weeds since our yard seems to be full of them. We are new homeowners (also in Fresno).

Kelsie! I'm not a fan of weed fabric in planting areas - watch our video on this very topic. We use 1.5 to 2" of mulch - many advocate for a thicker layer, but I prefer to just re-apply, if nec over time. The drip lines were staked firmly to the soil and then covered with mulch. - John Valentino

I removed bermuda grass 12 years ago by digging and pulling, then planted fescue grass by seeds. The bermuda continues to came back in some areas (around edge or concrete, crack of concrete, edge of boarder...etc_). A few year later, I decided to remove the grass and plant edible veggies instead. The fescue were easy to remove by digging/pulling; but the bermuda still comes back yearly , in spring, in certain area through this date.

It's very difficult to eradicate Bermuda completely - she is a survivor! Applying glyphosate (sometimes more than once) to kill all the bermuda roots before removing can help.

It wood look better with a nice green lawn, there would also be less work keeping it tidy.

Keep watching our videos as it matures. Green carpet of Kurapia will be attractive with way less mowing and water use than lawn. Keep tuning in and let us know what you think in another month or two.
