Gotta like Congruant off his last race on the track. I NEVER underestimate Todd & Irad anyplace. Ortiz giving up Fairgrounds for TP.. Two Phils is the one I would have to say will be there at the finish.!

This is a tough renewal of the Jeff Ruby. Funtastic Again has the best stride I have ever seen on synthetic and should be my selection. But I am very suspicious of the Todd Pletcher trained Point Proven. His dam was purchased for $1.2M and only made 4 starts between turf and synthetic. Point Proven's only win was recorded at Churchill Downs. The surface at CD is favorable to turf/synthetic types. This colt has a pair of 9F races under his girth and should he relish the synthetic he could upset at a big price. I am going to take a shot as the price is right.

@@Acloserlook735 Mark, I completely agree that this is a very tough renewal of the Jeff Ruby and I think it’s an excellent overall field. Lots of ways to go. If they go as fast up front as they did in the Battaglia it’s going to be a party for the closers again.

After doing some additional review I am of the firm opinion that Funtastic Again is likely to emerge the winner. The Godolphin colt should provide competition, but he ran with Lasix last out and that's cause for pause. Congruent recorded a 5.93 final 16th which is unheard of for an 8 1/2F race at Turfway Park. He was close to breaking he TR. Like Funtastic Again he won without Lasix last out at the venue. Positive for Funtastic Again: Two effortless victories on the surface. His last out over 8F in almost 1:37 flat for 2Turn Mile is a measure I used to assess serious potential. A1:36-mile split for a 9F race shouldn't trouble FA. The colt's stride mechanics reflects a level of fluency that is not display the other top entrants. The colt has done all his preparation at Turfway Park. The only other entrant with a similar training profile is Wadsworth. Many entrants have done their preparation on dirt. The colt will return 2 months between starts and should be fresh and raring to go. Many entrants are retuning on relatively short recovery time. The colt is a product of a book of 27 mares bred. Brilliant horses from such small books are usually very competitive against the top dogs on the division. Todd is as good as any trainer at getting his owners a Derby horse. My biggest concern is the rail more so than the surface. Super talented colt.

Hard to argue with those two. Botanical looks like the real deal and Two Phil’s has run against the best fields of those running on Saturday. Like both.
