I've heard this song played with pipe & drum, fife & drum, the fiddle, etc. It just goes to show how many folk songs originated in Ireland and made their way over here. Anyways, this is a fantastic rendition.

@@parisan9985 it's an English Morris tune from Norfolk. First played in the earlier part of the 17th century. As all folk music follows the aural tradition it was written as notation until 1799 and then again in the mid-19th century. Like most folk tunes it was picked up and used by the English and then British army from the 17th century onwards. Becoming popular throughout the British colonies. It is usually heard being played on the accordion or squeezebox with the fiddle seconding. This tune is a lot older than the tune you quote.

'The Girl I Left Behind Me' (original name 'Brighton Camp') is not Irish in origin. And come to think of it neither are 'The Wild Rover', 'The Black Velvet Band', 'The Jug of Punch' or the tune to 'Star of the County Down'. Guess as to where all the above 'Irish classics' originated.
