Turkey - Thanksgiving Dinner: The Gathering Table (Cooking Series)

Turkey is definitely the star of the show when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner which means there is pressure to get it right. Follow along with this tutorial as I guide you on all the tips and tricks to get the perfect moist turkey for your Holiday dinner.
Turkey
Ingredients:
Turkey - thawed
1 lemon
1 ¾ stick of butter, softened
1 teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons of salt
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 ½ tablespoons of parsley
1 red onion
1 bag of baby carrots
2 cloves of garlic
Olive oil
Additional salt and pepper for turkey cavity
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Slice one hand full of baby carrots in half and place in the bottom of your roasting pan. Slice a half of a red onion and place it in your roasting pan too. Set to the side for later.
3. Place turkey in a prep dish. Remove thawed turkey from plastic and remove the leg closure attached to the legs and cavity. Remove gizzards and turkey neck from cavity of turkey and set aside.
4. Check turkey for imperfections such as extra fat, rough skin near bottom of legs, and feathers - remove these items to properly prepare turkey. Wash turkey with water and pat dry with paper towel. Return to prep dish.
5. In a medium size bowl; combine butter, salt, pepper, garlic powder, zest of a lemon, juice of 1 lemon, and parsley. Once combined add about 2 teaspoons of olive oil to butter mixture to ensure that it does not burn during cooking. Set to side and prepare to apply to turkey.
6. Generously season inside of turkey with salt and pepper. Insert a half of red onion, two peeled garlic cloves and a half of lemon (same lemon that was used for the lemon juice earlier in the recipe).
7. Near the cavity opening, find where the skin is detached from the breast. Slowly push your fingers between the skin and the meat making sure not to tear the skin. Separate the skin from the meat as far back ask you can on the left and right-hand side. Follow the same process from the back of the turkey as well.
8. Take a small handful of your butter mixture and insert under the skin. Use your finger on top of the skin to push the butter further back under the skin. Repeat this technique on the left and right-hand side, both front and back.
9. Rub remainder of butter mixture on the outside of the turkey cover the entire surface. Place turkey in roasting pan with carrots and onions in the bottom. Add an ounce or two of water to bottom of pan.
10. Create a foil tent and place it on top of turkey.
11. Place turkey in oven and let cook for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove foil tent and baste turkey. Return to oven for remainder of cook time without foil. (You want to cook a turkey for about 15 - 20 minutes per pound. But check the instructions on the back of your turkey for more information specific to the weight of your turkey.)
12. Once cooking is complete, let cool and serve.
