Georgia took down Turkey in a fierce double-overtime battle in EuroBasket 2022 today. However, the game did not end there. After the match, Turkey claimed that they will leave EuroBasket if required footage won't be provided after the Furkan Korkmaz-Duda Sanadze incident. According to the Turkish national team, Korkmaz was attacked in the tunnel by three Georgian players and security guards after he left the court.

Have to agree with most people in the comments. I've watched enough games in this tournament to know for sure that the referees are doing a horrible job so far. No idea why FIBA is allowing this to continue and I hope things will change drastically in the playoffs. As far as the incident goes, if what Turkey claims to have happened after the end of the game is true, then Georgia must be disqualified and punished accordingly. There is no room for violence in the sport we love!

Thank you very much for your support good sir. If georgian staff shares the footage and we were on the wrong I'm willing to take any punishment we get. But if georgia claims this didnt happen then they have nothing to fear for, if they dont share it this would mean the attack really happened, because its obvious that theyre scared to show the world what happened. I wish peace and good intentions can be the ultimate winner, apart from the sports. Never like to see sinister violence off the court, this is nothing like the in game tension.

As a Turk, I thought we had no problem with the Georgians politically. People are generally positive towards Georgians. Those who follow wrestling know the rivalry between Taha Akgül and Geno Petriashvili. Even followers of a sport like wrestling, Georgian side and the Turkish side are both respectful to each other. Turkish people even supported Geno in the last Olympics when Taha was eliminated. Georgia also deserved the game. I have no objection to that. I am not satisfied with the game of my team. But if there is such a violence situation, Georgia, as the host country of the organization, needs to help to enlighten it. This is a situation that requires extra responsibility.

I am neither Turkish nor Gerogian. As a former player I always hated when refs decide the game, not the players. But that's how it is sometimes, refs can't swallow the whistle in the 4th quarter. But they can prevent the players from entering the 4th frustrated and desperate. Today's basketball is all about drawing fouls and even flopping like crazy. Sure it is very hard to address and ballance without interfering too much, but that's why refs are professionals and keep educating themselves every year. Floppers should be warned and penalized way earlier. Throwing head backwards or kicking legs in the air is unsportsmanlike and it is ruining the game both for the players and for the audience. And concerning the heated incident - from my point of view - first player to start a physical assault is the one to be ejected. Not the other one that is rather backing up. If there were any verbal insults before - that's what can't be caught on camera and it can be misused either way when the situation is resolved later. But there were several situations that were judged controversially which led to this so again - refs shouldn't let the player's frustration to build up this much.
@trainerrob1622
@trainerrob1622 Жыл бұрын
As a player you know sometimes you are going to have to play through a night when it seems as if the refs are not calling the game down the line. 99% of the time when you go back and look at the game film objectively you are going to see the refs missed calls on both sides. As a player your wish is for them to swallow the whistles in money time and let you go out there and see who can impose their will on the other 5. Don`t blow the whistle on incidental contact, don`t blow the whistle on contact which one player didn`t gain an advantage on another and alter the course of the play or possession. Turkey should have never been in this situation. That`s what this boils down too. This game should have never been close enough that the jawing from the Georgia players carried any weight.

I am a player. If we played together in half court and everytime you touched me I asked for a foul, would you enjoy the game? The referees are there to make players follow the rules of the game. Yes sometimes they do mistakes... that's why they do seminars and study to be better next time. Players can't decide because they want only to play, they can't think anything else. They are on fire, on heat their hearts beats are many...so they can't have a clear mind to make the right decision about a violation of the rules. Protests to referees by players or coaches, grimaces, gestures and prompt for fighting (their heads stick together like roosters or rams) between each other are now charged with disqualifying fouls. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As long as the victim player does not react to the provoking methods of the aggressor, then justice is on their side. If the victim becomes aggressor and reacts back... then, unfortunately, loses their rights. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

To be absolutely clear, Turkey didn't threaten to leave to tournament because of this incident, it was because some Georgian players and security officers allegedly harassed Furkan and a conditioner after this play in the locker rooms, also securities were unnecessarily physical to Turkish players and staff, as the manager of Turkey claimed and added "if the security footage of the corridors and locker rooms will not be revealed completely, we will leave the tournament".

Provocation is something else, and its something in the game. I agree with you on korkmaz not being to control himself. Him and sanadze being ejected was rightful. Yet, this is about our players well being. After the ejection, korkmaz and his trainer claim to be attacked at the hall. Also after the game the whole team claims to be harassed and pushed around by the police. We're just requesting the hall security cam footage to be shown to the public so if they actually did it they could be punished. If this is real and goes unpunished some other countries could start doing this as well. Georgia won fairly for the most part, 22 seconds is a huge time for basketball though, but this is not important. I fear for our players' safety for the remaining games.

First of all, Georgian team deserved to win. Believe me, in social media Turkish fans are not complaining about that. The team hardly beat Montenegro and Bulgaria already. With a bit of luck and a lot of toughness, Georgia took the W deservingly. Turkish side's threat comes for receiving evidence for the attack in the corridoor. When three players from the host country's team attack one player with the help of the police is very cowardly and it needs to be punished. And as Turkish people know that in Eastern Europe these security records can always be gotten rid of, it happens in our country too "when it's needed" unfortunately. That's why they are threatening to leave the tournament if they didn't receive the video evidence. It seems like Bitadze, Sanadze and Shengelia first attacked Furkan and one guy from Turkish coaching staff. Then at the end of the match, when there is another altercation happened between two teams, Georgian police starts to provoke and uses violence against Turkish team in the corridoors. This needs to be investigated.

This is the best comment of this post.. only an addition , The clock scandal can not be accepted anyways. They are running the clock while Furkan and Sanazde is fighting , they stop it 4.26 and start it again and finally stop at 4.22 , so they have stolen 26 seconds of the game, This can not be done accidentally, if it is so the referees had to reset the clock but they didnt do it even Turkish team has made his objection, So this is not a mistake but done on purpose. I have nothing against Georgia and his nice people, this is bloody FIBA-MAFIA. This is very clear , if Turkey would win the game than would be leader of group with 3/3 victories and Georgia would be last as home team with 3/0. On the other hand, the interest for basketball from GEORGIAN audience is evident, I could imagine this games if they would played them in GREECE,TURKEY or SPAIN , the tickets would be sold out in 2 hours..

I believe the turkey has to leave but not for the reasons you imagine. If a player was harrashed (and i think that it happened), than staying to this charade of a tournament would encourage these kind of behavior in the future. And don't give me this crap that if turkey leaves then they are no serious team and that they have no sportmanship. Something must be done. It's time for everyone involved to understand that this kind of behavior will not be tollerated anymore.This is a strong message that will send the right concequence. And the message is ''be fair and clear or noone in the future will ever participate in your little party''. After the ejections the game resumed. Georgia was attacking and a georgian player (beka burjanadze) got fouled. This was supposed to be turkeys 5th team foul which meant that burjanadze was supposed to shoot free throws. Instead it was an inbounds play which ended with a miss and turkey had the ball. That should’ve been turkeys 5th team foul but the refs didnt add it for some reason and turkey was left with 4 fouls instead of 5. Those 2 free throws could’ve been crucial. So when turkey keeps crying that 22 seconds was taken off of the clock, remember, georgia got cheated out of shooting 2 free throws in the 4th quarter.

Crazy how the Turkish ppl in the comments are still whining and crying over the game. It really feels like they’re all little spoiled kids, who can’t take a loss. And the arguments with Georgian players and police attacking a Turkish player is just an assumption, which the representative of the Turkish (who probably works in the propaganda section) just randomly proposed. The argument with the 22 seconds is factual, but still it’s not fault of the Players or how bad Georgia manages the tournament, it’s just a mistake from the Fiba team, which happens all the time. Even the Georgian team got stolen a few opportunities to score, but they didn’t cry around like baby’s. So to all Turkish ppl here: wake up, you guys are not the center of the world and never will be. If georgia states that this never happened then they have nothing to be scared of, they can post the footage. If they dont this would mean theyre guilty. Ataman said that our players' psychologic state is not really very good after the attack and some of them couldn't even sleep. This is about our players' well being. What would you think if your players got attacked? Stop being racist and think about this for a minute. I'll be waiting. I know we cant go that far this year, yet I want to watch some good basketball even if we lose. And if we lose fair and square, props to our opponent and I'd wish them the best.
