Why are the prison sentences so short…. those poor children’s lives are ruined yet they can spend a few years in prison and then live on?? Our criminal justice system is so ridiculous 🤦♀️
@UpperDarbyDetailing5 ай бұрын
Basically, it’s because those cases can be pretty difficult to win. Even though juries tend to assume that if someone has been charged they’re probably guilty (the more heinous the crime, the more likely a juror is to assume that the defendant is guilty regardless of evidence). Still, DA’s know that they could lose. So they offer a fairly short actual sentence, with a very long probation period. If you look you’ll find 7, 8, 9 years of probation. Which gives the probation officer plenty of time to find a reason to revoke their probation. Which means they can be resentenced on their original crime AND whatever they did to get their probation revoked. Since they already pled guilty there’s no chance of losing the case.

The Jessie Slaughter situation is extremely depressing. The horrible things 4chan and the internet did, how shitty the authorities acted, how the media took advantage of the story for views, her parental failures, people coming to the defense of an adult with pedophile rumors & the band attacking her too, etc. Everyone just ignoring how she was a goddamn child; especially one with some clear behavioral issues who may have been sexually assaulted. Everyone blamed and attacked her. Poor girl, I feel so bad for her, I hope she's ok now. *EDIT:* Damn some of these comments make me realize people don't understand children. If you are offended by what a kid says you talk to their parents, you don't attack and harrass them expecting them to understand the consequences of their action bc *THEY'RE CHILDREN.* They lack the experience and brain development to get it and will almost always respond in the most extreme ways unless taught otherwise by competent adults. It's honestly pathetic if anyone thinks if a kid is acting out they rightfully deserve abuse or should be held to adult standards. Unless the kid has an actual psychological disorder, you can almost always trace the negative behavior to the adults in their life. And everyone else who got involved just fueled the flames to traumatize a kid who was already a possible victim of sexual assault.

Looking back I’m so glad nothing like that happened to me and my heart goes out to Damian and hope he recovers from the situation. Also Dahvie is still active under a new band name with his gf and still trash music, Jay left the band after contracting AIDS and literally calling his grandma that he can’t make it despite all the money the band was making. False. I’ve never posted on 4chan before or make an account, but I looked it up when I was still in high school from 2017-2019. Never found out how to post though. Never spent a total of 24 hours reading posts, but I did spend an okay amount of hours reading the posts. There’s actually a very, very unusual amount of fighting, arguing, spam, bait, etc there now. It use to be similar to Reddit in terms of hive mindset, but today there’s far less homogenous thinking on Reddit in terms of total posts on various communities on there. There’s ironically more so of a unified way of thinking on Reddit for the past 7 years now than 4chan. Everyone hates each other on 4chan. It’s far worse for anyone that uses it now, because there’s zero sense of community for anyone there anymore like there apparently use to be to a much higher degree. I’m 24 and don’t know much about them or 4chan, but I do know that I’ve consumed a lot of memes made by them that were created from 2015 up to now that I’ve seen posted to KZbin (first), Twitter and Instagram. A large amounts of meme formats, templates and designs does come from there. Br&inlet, smoothie brain, soyjack, it’s happening, the meme war of 2015-2016, etc memes. They’re good at making memes at least.

Christ. It always hurts hearing about kids getting used by predators, I sought out the attention of older men myself starting when I was only 9 years old. I had little to no validation or anything in my life, I always felt like I was just taking advantage of them when they got me things and gave me attention. In reality, I was never the one in control. The situation with Jessi was heart wrenching, I could have easily been them. The way they were demonized and blamed is so disgusting, everyone failed them. There's a reason they were seeking out attention, I just want to hug them.

Jesus Christ. I'm a foster care provider and this is terrifying. I used to only Forster male teens and had a lot of success but my wife and I have two sons of our own who were getting older, and peering we started fostering younger, female and male... We had one of our 13 year old girls try to sneak out all dressed up and made up, to meet some rando. We monitor and limit their online access but during COVID, Telus made a "deal" with the mcfd and provided phones with 24/7 Internet Data for their "safety".... and if we took away their phones, we would be "harming" them.... So yeah. It's an uphill Battle.
@zaynes5094 Жыл бұрын
They all should've known better. I'm a guy, and honestly, I was in the exact same situation as you were except I was 11 and I SHOULD HAVE known better, and instead I got some kind of infection from that girl who was giving me attention. When I told my parents after weeks of holding the literal pain in from my crotch, I told my sister what stuff her friend and I got up to, she told me to keep it quiet from our parents because they were close at the time, but then I finally confessed and they took my to the doctors. They told me I did have any infection and eventually the infection went away with some medications. I remember that doctors visit being very awkward when I told her what happened. She looked at my parents like with a look of shock and anger. Then once out of there, they both gave me the "talk" and a down about not getting involved with ANY older girls until I myself was older. After that, my sister cut off all contact from that other girl. That same girl went on to sleep with an underage minor a few years later, who was not me, and she went to jail for that. You ask me, she deserved what she got. That goes for any male or female predators. The other scary thing is, a lot of the predators don't even realize they're doing something wrong, but the ones who do know they're feelings are wrong morally or ethically or legally, they are the ones that fall to that temptation first. It's scary, but also sad because they will not ever be normal or even close to that when they finally commit an act on a minor. And I learned my own lessons. That girl was just using me for her own wants. Probably because something happened to her when she was younger that made her lose control. Anyone who's been abused wants their own autonomy and individuality and don't like when they feel threatened by that individuality.

@startledmilk6670 Жыл бұрын
Some people are born like that as well. As sad as it is to say, for some, it just like being attracted to adult straight or gay people, they literally cannot help it. There is a lot of research done on pedophiles in a few European countries where pedophiles can actually get treatment so they don’t offend and are not automatically reported to the police. In the U.S. when it comes to pedophilia, it’s about punishment, not prevention. In the U.S., if you go to a mental health professional and say you’re attracted to kids, even if you have never offended and explicitly state that you do not want to offend, they can still report you to the police and sometimes be placed on the sex offender registry so this is a deterrent for people seeking help. As long as you have never offended and don’t want to, I believe you deserve to get help without stigma.

The moral of the story is: spend time with your kids. Don’t let the internet raise them, and always try to stay on top of their activity online, even if they make a fuss about their privacy. They don’t know any better, but we do, and if we don’t, we *should*.

My favorite part was 5:16, where he attempts to create the impression he is against CP by stating he's 'not a big fan' of it. Stating you're not a 'big fan' of something usually suffices, but the wording in this specific example makes you sus as hell by default.

The message sent to Jessi's mother was so pathetic its unreal. While there was some truth to what he was saying, they shouldn't have let a young girl her age go unsupervised on the internet. Trying to act like him and the others were doing some kind of justice and teach her a lesson was so cringe. In reality it was just a bunch of neckbeards ruthelessly bullying an 11 year old girl and ruining her life. The holier than thou attitude was ridiculous.

The thing about psychosis is that the possessed person becomes blind to it. They will flip reality any way possible to justify their actions, while it is the same good old emotional harassment and shredding other person’s mental health. Carelessness of parents is unawareness, while intentional attack is an actual action and a choice. It puts these “caring” people into the same category as predators
@whippersnapper83879 ай бұрын
No the letter had a lot of truth. Yes most of it was the internets fault but clearly the parents weren’t doing their jobs as parents . Just look at her. She grew up with drug addict parents who clearly didn’t. Care for her

Thank God I wasn't on 4chan as a kid. I don't believe that kids should have unfettered access to the internet. Not to "kids these days", but I really do think it's a terrible thing that parents just shove their kids in front of tablets and phones for hours on end. The internet can be a very dangerous and kind altering place.

I was a victim of online grooming as a pre-teen, and I've talked to many GenZers who have had the same experience. When you hear stories like the one about the 12 year old girl, some might think "ugh, this generation is so wild and naiive, how stupid can they be to post such things" and that completely removes blame from the predators who spend weeks, months grooming these girls to do these things. Most pre-teens deal with low self-esteem, poor or toxic relationships with their parents, lack of or difficulty finding friends, mental illnesses and being treated like a child by the world around them. And many girls I've talked to are neurodivergent or have a personality disorder. So being told they're beautiful, sexy, smart, interesting. That a man would wisk them away from their awful homelife and treat them like a queen, its extremely easy to fall into. And they need this person in their life, so of course they'll do whatever to make them happy or receive the attention they're not getting anywhere else. So don't fucking blame the 12 year old girl, blame the creeps and the neglectful adults in her life.
