I've always said what Chris, Paulie, and Robert Garcia said, "If you could fight like that, you would." That's why I no longer get mad when certain fans criticize elite boxers as being boring or runners. These guys have a particular skill set. If your favorite fighters had those skills, they would fight like that, but they don't, so they don't fight like that.

Porter was way too short to compete at 154. Much less 160. It's one thing to fight someone who is your size or smaller. And it is a completely different ballgame to go in the ring against someone who has a sizable height and reach advantage. This is why very few guys (throughout the entire history of boxing) have been special enough to give up large amounts of height and reach. And still win against other world class boxers. Just look at haney and benavidez as the most recent examples. As soon as they fought someone just slightly bigger than them, their performances fell off dramatically.
@bryandungee10296 ай бұрын
He fought guys like Usyk and competed!!! Ur tripn bro!!! Pitbull Cruz is 5’3 IF THAT, Jermell Charlo has a 73” reach, Porter has a 70” reach which is Longer than Canelos who fights at 68, Porter is taller with a longer reach but he’s way too small for those divisions??
@joelastre48646 ай бұрын
@@bryandungee1029 All of your examples were horrible. And I'll put them to rest one by one: 1) He fought usyk for three rounds in the amateurs, when they were 19 years old. That is NOWHERE NEAR the same as fighting a fully grown usyk at cruiserweight. 2) Pitbull cruz beat rolly romero. Rolly is damn near an amateur level boxer. Let's see pitbull go fight errol spence or vergil ortiz. 3) Porter is no canelo. Not even CLOSE. He took 4 losses (and robbed ugas) and was relatively pillow fisted even at 147. There was no way he could compete at 154, fighting guys like lara, jermell, demetrius, trout etc. Much less at 160 with guys like ggg.

Regarding el rayo. I first became aware of him as he was close with rollie. Rollie was complaining everyone was ducking him, then el rayo said, ok i’ll fight you. Rollie replied, you’re a snake. And rollie did not take that fight. Regarding fighting cruz, rayo could win if he’s disciplined, but i think cruz’s chin stands up and he could take advantage of rayo’s style of holding his head high and chin up, i suspect rayo will overcommit trying to ko cruz. Cruz catches rayo’s chin, unless rayo is better at distance control.

I disagree with Porter. He says “Pitbull” doesn’t know how to use his feet. Pitbull is one of the best front forward pressure fighters. Porter doesn’t fight like Pitbull nor does Porter “fight” like Crawford. Pitbull’s “feet” is why Tank had some difficult moments with Pitbull. Not all “fighters” nor “pure boxers” have Pitbull’s chin or that grit to take firepower via peekaboo style/ half high guard. Shawn Porter should know what fighting is, and not be biased to “pure boxing” or American styles. Aside like crazy pivoting/weaving like a prime Iron Mike, Pitbull is basically a copy of him. He’s not afraid to swing with mean intentions.
