Purple was a fool to trust you but an even bigger fool to stack next to your cap. There are two possibilities: either you are serious about giving him that bonus or you want to trick him into opening your cap. If you want to play nice then placing that big stack at the border can be seen as a threat and if you want to trick him then placing them at the border is suicide. Either way, the correct move was to stack cap.
