This is great. Live in Colorado, where you cannot use plastic bags anymore. We have to use re-usable bags for ALL shopping (groceries too). I am going to try to make a few of these! Thank you for sharing! :)

Cutting with pinking sheers can help prevent fraying too. If you want to tack the lining down, just sew the whole outer bag around - right sides together, then inner lining right sides together. Make a triangle with your fingers in the corner, sew across. Then attach the lining (wrong sided to wrong sided) to those triangles you just made (going to be your boxed corner, just no need to cut anything). I make it so each side has a rough edge rather than putting both rough edges together. Turn the bag you want as the outer side around the inner lining - no need to go inside out through the lining. Pin the straps where you think they should be - so straps are between the two bags - top edges folded down. To be sure they are correct I simply fold the bag in half to be sure the straps line up. If good, pin the straps on the other side. Now there's no guessing if your straps are correct because you can see them without ever having to birth the bag and sew a portion of the inner lining. I use a double needle in an SS pattern on my machine (not zig zag or you'll break both needles, but it goes back and forth rather than side to side) to sew the top of the bag. Outer bag shows 2 different colors of thread, inner bag shows 3 as the bobbin thread you can see in between - so sturdy, reversible, and washable! Hope that helps.

I think the red lining popping up (as a design choice!) really made the bag look special. I guess if you wanted to build that in from the start so that the lining still fit down to the bottom of the bag, you could just add a couple of inches extra to the height of the lining pieces (or double however much you wanted to peek over the top, to allow for the fold)?
