For all interested: There is a list of all the driver boards I found plus a usb touchscreen that you can add. You can find the list of all the parts here: www.wolfgangkierdorf.de/retro/ipads.html

I am new to this. How important is it to have the driver board for the exact LCD model? I have a 1st gen iPad but the model number on my screen is L5F30995 P01038FS. I can’t seem to find anything for that LCD model.

Hi thanks for the tutorial. In your link you mention the touchscreen option. And there is a link in the descriptition (and yin your pinned comment). The toucscreen option involves "a new glass" on top of the screen?
@RetroWK6 күн бұрын
@@AndresValdez54235 Correct. The touch sensor (glas) sits on top of the screen. Just like on the iPad itself. It's not laminated on.

This is a great screen, have one in the same case. I think what is overlooked on this for some people is the quality of the screen and the high resolution at a 4:3 ratio screen which is kind of hard to find at a decent price.

Great video, shows all the potential issues you faced and non of the editing out that manyKZbinr do. Such a great screen and underrated as a 4:3 monitor. Cheap source as nobody wants them and an easy to fit box, win win IMO.

Good to see new life for the old hardware. Wish Apple made it easier to repurpose old devices -- even their iMacs can't really be used as displays, a real tragedy.
@omenageadoАй бұрын
Just to say, Apple doesnt really helps, but its actually very cheap to turn an old iMac into a HDMI display (if you already have an old one), wich is really good because a good 27 inch 2k display with such quality is not cheap

This was the most inadequate method, to say the least, for removing the iPad 1 screen. Ideally, you should use a screen separator machine or a heating pad-tools designed to heat the device and soften the adhesive. Simply place the smartphone or tablet on them. If these tools are not available, you can use the blower from a soldering station. Although it requires more effort, this alternative also works
@JimWood28Ай бұрын
Nice one. As always, thank you Wolfgang.
@retro_noixАй бұрын
I also reused iPad 1 screen and gotten the controller from AliExpress, but with no case. I like there is a case now for it!
@grimsdaggerАй бұрын
Recycling components from broken devices is really cool. It helps a lot to use a heat gun to melt the glue before you pry the glass, but I wouldn't do that if the battery is swollen. It sucks that apple uses adhesive to put iPads together.

I was thinking about 3d printing a case for mine (I'm using a laptop panel - I guess it doesn't really matter where the panel comes from, we're just repurposing stuff, right?). I was running into the problem that the print is too big for my printer, and chopping it up results in really clunky looking joints. `I hadn't realised that Ali express did panel enclosures - that's definitely worth looking into...
@RetroWKАй бұрын
Or just tilt it 90 degrees and print it on the side. you just need some supports on the side then. That worked for me with bigger prints than the classic 20x20.
@TimsRetroCornerАй бұрын
@@RetroWK Or get a certain sponsor to print it... ;) Might be a serious option, since they can handle pretty big prints.
