Made my first biscuit joins using my trim router and used your tape trick to get the slots the right size. It worked perfectly. Sometimes it’s the simple tricks that make a difference. Thank you

Thankyou Colin for all your great uploads. Everything explained well and not just with making things but also explaining how the tools work and the results from both routers and benchsaws. Keep posting scrap wood things to make. Derek. Uk.

Over 20 years ago, I had an attachment for my 'Triton' router table that did biscuit slots. But you had to use the Triton biscuits, as they were an odd size. I still have a hand held biscuit jointer but it rarely gets used these days. Same with dowels, I can't remember when I last used it. But for people with limited resources, it would work well. Thanks Colin.

Agreed. Saved a bundle ($32 for a Whiteside router bit kit with three bearings) by not pulling the trigger on that $200 jointer that I may have used twice in a year.

Colin, I have used this since.o started woodworking four years ago. I didn't understand the big deal about biscuit jointers when for $15 I had a biscuit cutter on my router table. I have started using feather boards in just the way you described for the reasons you stated, but I love your tape and jig idea. Also, I use dowel joinery almost all the time but feel I'm less than a skilled woodworker because I'm not yet skilled at mortise and tenon. Dowel joinery is faster and it seems to me you make a stronger joint than with mortise and tenon. Thanks for the great videos.

The tip here is don't use a router table, just use a plung attachment on your router, it works just the same as your dowl jig, dealing with 4-5 inches at a time, rather than warped lengths.

The side with the tape on it wasn’t even because you used the other side as your reference. Need to always put the tape on the back side of the boards, then the surface you want to show will be even. Thanks for the tip Colin!

Thankyou Colin i bought one of those cutters in a sale and have never used it yet as i thought it would be good for slotting and I have a dedicated biscuit jointer which I rate highly. The thing that surprised me was that it's the wrong diameter needing you to make side movement and leave voids. Do any of the router biscuit cutters have the correct diameter?

Colin... after hearing how your dowel jig works, I got thinkin... could u not raise the bit 5mm & use a 4" × 4" × 5mm "pad" of mdf to achieve a similar outcome ?? You'd need a bit-clearance cutout in it of course 🙄

Hi Colin iam going to make a headboard 55 inches and about 2 feet high. Wood I will be using is 1 inch rough cut thick. I will plain it down the pieces will be staggered. A long one at the top one in the middle two small ones in each end be about four of them. What would be the best way to join them fingering finger joint? Dowel it or biscuit it?

Hey Colin, why can't you just put the standard replacement biscuit cutter blade in your router? I don't know the specs for the hole in the middle, so maybe that's the reason, can't safely secure it to the arbor? If you could, a Ryobi 4" biscuit cutter blade is about $14-$20 depending on source, similar to this, and that'd give you the exact curved slot, without having to slide it, just a plunge into the blade.

Really no reason I could see if you can find a router bit shank to fit it.

It probably will work but the bottom of the cut will be a straight line when you move it through that distance of 1/2 " . This will not match exactly to the biscuit as the top and bottom of the biscuit itself is curve. There will e a little void inside the groove. I don't know if this will affect the strength of the joint or not. Perhaps it is the topic for your next video.

For the most part biscuits are used for alignment purposes. The biscuit itself is not very strong as compared to a dowel. The surface area on that edge of the biscuit is not very much either. IMHO
