That version of Hairspray is not just ludicrously entertaining, it also has so many important lessons in tolerance and what makes for a healthy family. It is one of the great family movies, and my kids would be required to watch it.

the musical stunk!!! I remember my mom walked out during the intermission and never came back .. she felt it did a injustice to Divine and Ms Lake..!!! My mom hated the musical .. and after that she felt that John Waters sold out to Hollywood!.

The original "Hairspray," to this date is the greatest John Waters film I've ever seen. Mid Century 20th century was one of the most fun times this nation has ever seen. Sure, there was turmoil and bias but both of those things will always exist no matter what happens in our future! I'd like to see a remake with Ricki playing Divines, role. To me, John Travolta just looked like a gay man in a fat suit pretending to be a woman. Nothing more or less. That movie can not compare to the original.
