Turning 8 Point 3 Axis Star - Best Yet

A few weeks ago, I turned an eight point star inspired by an ornament submitted in last year's Ornament Challenge. From comments, I learned that I did not turn it exactly as they had but close enough.
However, I wanted a star with more pointed rays. So, I am taking the concept a bit further by cutting a deeper cove at each mount. I wanted to see if this would work also.

This is a great project thanks. I've been working a lot on turning things involving the platonic solids and it immediately occurs to me that there is a whole new avenue of exploration with platonic stars.

I like to project, I started to make one and realized to needed to make some spacers as I re-watched the video I also noticed you used a caliper to measure the center diameter. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what diameter you used when making this star? I don't want to go too small as I work on mine. Thanks for doing these youtube's.

I did measure with a caliper a couple of times. However, it did not matter since it depends on your personal tastes. As the turning progresses, it is most important (depth wise) to match the depth cut from each axis. This is best gauged my inspecting the intersections rather than from a measure. Suggest cutting multiple cubes to start with. Your first may not succeed but will be a learning experience. Alan

@@AsWoodTurns Thank you for your timely reply. Hadn't thought of your point about the matching idea, I had been more concerned about a number for some reason. Good you're keeping me pointed me the right direction!! You sure were right about needing multiple cubes. Despite beginners luck, my first star was something I won't be showing anyone other than my wife. Thanks for the help.
