Turning a BOX into a CAKE?! 🍰 Deco Cake Jewelry Box

Let's make a FAKE CAKE out of a paper mache box, spackle, pearl cabochons, and a faux strawberry. This decoden cake is the perfect gift box for any occasion - Valentine's Day included - and it can also be used as the cutest jewelry box for home decor or room decor! Technically, this is also a thrift store makeover since I found the box at Goodwill. Deco sweets with fake frosting are a fun & easy craft to create. I was inspired to try this project thanks to ‪@BargainBethany‬ & ‪@kaarinjoy‬ #SoCraftastic

That looks disturbingly good! We read that In England during wartime rationing, there were cardboard and plaster cake covers that looked like a decorated, iced cake, to conceal the more austere pastry beneath. This reminds us of that a bit, but it's so over-the-top cute and colorful, this really is in a whole different class! Love it!

Arrowroot would be better. It's made to thickening

Most fake bakers use a little flour or baby powder. I've used flour and works great. No cracking when fully dried. A little will go a long way. To much makes it impossible to pipe. 😂

If no one else mentioned it, you can add a little bit of flour or baby powder for the spackle to hold it's form. It won't effect the drying such as cracking if you don't mix too much in. I've only used flour, no issues with funky smells or type of mold either. Love ya girl! Been watching you grow and craft since your original channel name. ❤

It looks awesome! Instead of spackle, try joint compound. It's a lot thicker and holds its shape a lot better. 💙

Only if there was a way of making the caulking matte. Maybe look for another type of caulking that is matte. Im wondering if drywall caulk would of been dull. It seams like window or bathroom would be glossy. Since it has to be waterproof. Cause that spackle didnt hold its shape at all.

It's got to be too warm where u r using the spackle, the more u handle it and the warmer it gets it won't hold the shape as well.
