Turning a Coffee Scoop

This is my first project for 2015. I don't usually turn kits, but I got a Coffee Scoop kit for Christmas so I had to turn it for my wife. It turned out pretty good.

Nice little project Cip. I do enjoy your videos. BTW, thanks for including the metric measurements in your videos for us Canadian (and other) subscribers. I recently watched your table saw storage video and had to laugh at the end piece glued on upside down. I saw you look at the attachment screw hole several times while gluing on the piece and expected you to change it around off line. Never happened. I noticed someone else had commented already so I didn't bother...until now. It was funny because we have all done something like that. Cheers, Dave

To finish the end you sawed off, did you just use a friction polish by hand? Or did you use a buffing tool?

Howdy Sanchez! I do not fully recall. I think I sanded , applied some friction polished, to help match the color and just hand buffed with a soft cloth. Thank you so much for your question. Kind Regards.

Is that crystal coat a food safe finishing product?

Thanks for the question. I did not find any descriptions that use the words "Food Safe." Crystal Coat is used mostly as a quick finish for small woodturnings like pens, handles, and toys. It is mostly composed of shellac and carnauba wax. These are non-toxic in small amounts. I believe it is safe to use around food and with caution in contact with food e.i. use the metal scoop to measure coffee grounds but don't stir hot coffee with the handle.
