Very nice explanation. These things are quite interesting and must be a great skill builder. Thank you for posting

I can cut the pieces exactly the same. I cut a groove in the center to avoid them coming apart. My question is, when you apply the hot glue, are they supposed to be flat against eachother, or is there a space between them, because of the glue?

Hot glue is almost impossible to compress to 'zero gap', but I believe that you should aim for a minimal gap - not least because the whole principle of the design relies on the symmetry of the two halves.

I realize it's kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released movies online ?

Every time I try to turn the block round, I'm afraid to because its catching, so I tighten my tail stock, then eventually it splits where I glued it together, then I cant get it round. Which comes to my next question. If I turn one side, and get it curved correctly, how am I going to turn the other side, with only 3/8 " of wood holding it in place, and even that, is split with glue?

Tommy Schutz I see nobody replied to your questions. I do things slightly differently. 1. Make your blanks 1-1/2” longer, there will be a little more waste. 2. Use turners tape to hold pieces together. Clamp with pressure for 15 min. To set the tape. 3. Use a spur center drive, and a cup center in tail stock. Cut the v grooves as in the video. Turn carefully a 3/4” wide by 1” dia tenon on both ends. Wrap each of these tenons with 3 wraps of strapping tape. Turn as per video, the tape will ensure they don’t come apart. 4. When turned , cut off the tenons and use a very thin blade, working carefully, pry the pieces apart.

Thanks for replying. I really appreciate your input. I made one initially, and it was relatively easy. I went back months later, only to discover that I couldn't even turn the blanks round, because the more pressure I applied with my spur drive and cone center in the tail stock, it pulled the blanks apart. I realized, after your input, that I needed to use the cup center on the tail stock, and my problems would be solved. Your suggestions for the 3/4" wide by 1" diameter tenon, on both ends, is helpful too. Thanks again, Tommy Schutz
