The hardest thing for me when playing live is: How do I start? Since much of my set is improvised, finding a good starting point to jump off from is important. When I was asked by Frictions to play the MVG Museum in Munich I immediately know I had to play the room.

Reminds me of the "Playing the Building" installation by David Byrne back in 2005. "It featur[ed] a retrofitted antique organ, placed in the first-floor gallery, that controls a series of devices attached to various architectural parts of the building. The results is an echoed, ominous orchestra: water pipes become flutes, beams become percussive instruments, and so forth."

"There seems to be a lot of possibilities to bang things lightly with mallets, and maybe do some electromagnetic field recording" I love music because of that, because you can do your things in so many unpredictable ways, no matter how simple or overcomplicated you want it to be. You want to record conversations, and sample them to make a rhythm out of it? You can. Want to record the blank, chaotic noise of AM radio and make them an ambient instrument? You can. Almost everything is possible with music, and I love this.

Can we get a supercut of you walking around tapping on objects with 100% dry mix where it still captures the reverb/size of the room? It's charming in the 'Patrick Stewart in a ball pit' kind of way.

During the early 1990’s when I was heavily influenced by industrial music and worked in kitchens, I used to utilize the sink sprayer in everything metal to make music.

The importance for an artist to feel a deep connection and also to feel they have explored with satisfaction the possibilities of a subject and then to be gifted by serendipity in the final creation. That's how this feels I think you ticked all those boxes and came back bubbling with excitement. Thank you for making this video for us.

Ethereal as is normal for your more free form ambient pieces. I love finding the beauty inherent in the noises made by mundane objects. I have found that air cylinders from compressors make great bells if you cut off one end.

As someone who has spilled a long-stemmed wine glass on his laptop, I can tell you that the shot of your beautiful Nagra being so close to that glass of wine was a bit discomforting. I have a pretty strict "no open liquids near gear" rule. Especially treasured vintage equipment like that tape deck.

Hey Hainbach! I know you probably won’t see this.. but I just rewatched your “magnetic card reader” video as I wanted to show it to my girlfriend, and I had an idea to make a looping track that swaps between loops. If you somehow managed to make multiple magnetic cards into a large Möbius strip, it would allow the card reader to flip between the sides of the cards - and thus the different tracks! Just a thought, with great difficulty in actual implementation.
