Turning a Special Bowling Ball

This is a special bowling ball. On 01/16/2016, my nephew, Blake Zumer, rolled his first 300 game! He has since gone on to roll a second perfect game. But, since he no longer uses this ball, he wanted me to make him something special with it. The base is birdseye maple from Michigan. Blake, I hope you like it! Happy Birthday!!

Beautiful! Almost like looking at an earth’s image on the one area. Far too fancy for a popcorn bowl, I’d say. Was really interesting to see the inside of a bowling ball. Do you know what materials were inside of it?

@@LivingstonBrothersWoodcraft Bowling balls are made out of different types of resin depending on how you want it to perform. The balls provided by your local bowling alley have just a core and an outer layer that are easy for everyone to use. Professional balls, like this have an asymmetrical hard resin core in the middle, a softer resin filler, and a hard resin outer layer. The professional balls have more hook to them. Also, I would not use this for food since bowling balls are made from a resin that is not food safe.

Beautiful bowl and the base works really well. What is in the bottom of the bowl? Is it an insert or white material left from the bowling ball?

I suppose it could be if you had the right target audience. You will have to consider your supplies and your time. This project took about 4 hours. What is 4 hours of your time worth?
