Today we finish up a big project on our Wood-Mizer LT15 sawmill... making the decking for our loft! We decided to mill up some douglas fir we had leftover from milling our timber frame into 2x6 boards. Off to the kiln they go... we hope to have them back in a few weeks at 8% moisture!

HI, I have a band mill and have used it for 20+ years. Elissa I give you a big big +++ for your work. You could do most anything you put your mind to. However you do have a great teacher and companion. Don't know about off camera but It would show if it were different I'm sure.You two are a great team and such a pleasure to watch, Your example is so up lifting and positive. If you are going to use any of it for flooring, you don't really have to worry about the length as long as it fits between two floor joists. In fact in a floor random length looks really good, and is common practice. As a side note you have a brake light on the trailer. Have a blessed day

Jesse, suggest that you consider your stickers at the end of the pack, on the square end a Wider sticker, double the regular sticker width, and move it to the very end of the pack layer. Would guess that it will minimize even more the checking issue. On the East Coast we always do that with All species. HPB

nice stacking of bundles....your attention to strips between the boards right at the ends will keep it from twisting....good job. air drying will take the moisture out of your lumber just as much as kiln dried....with time. just poly the top to keep the rain and snow out. cheers!

In the start of the video Jessie says 77 boards but when I paused the video at 1:45 I could see only 9 full rows (7 boards) on the trailer. That's 63 boards. Regardless, that's a good result for one day's work. Thumbs up!

Also, I remembered their first board haul was about 15-16 rows high so this pile didn't seem that high in comparison. If you fuel up the mill at the end of the day, you will have a lesser chance of condensation developing in the tank. Also, the left rear brake light on the trailer is out, which means you have no signal light on the left rear. Now we wait.

hey guys, enjoying your series immensely. using it as company while we design the addition to the timber frame home we put up about 20 years ago as newlyweds - your journey sure brings back memories. in any case, designing and building, then having lived with our house all this time, we've some lessons learned that we would love to share. subjects that occupied us and still seem to be open for you - windows, ventilation and heat exchangers, running utilities, generators (built my own low speed diesel powered) pests and varmints taking up residence - lots of lessons learned. our frame is hemlock, built by a framer 3 generations removed from ted benson, located in northern new england with wind and weather that looks a lot like where you are. we'd be happy to have a conversation if you think it might be helpful. BTW, the two ted benson books we bought back then (glad to see you find it useful as well) were great, he surely deserves a place in history for his contributions to all this.

You guys rock so hard!!! As fellow WM15 owners, watching you guys mill is incredibly fun! Question: We understand about 7 months ago the LT15 WIDE was traded for the standard LT15. What are the differences between the standard and WIDE models besides the obvious ability to take larger logs? In the video showing the swapping of WIDE for standard 15, Jessie mentioned there were key features the standard 15 had over the WIDE, but didn't specify what those key features were. another awesome day. I also had some 10/12/14 inch boards 2 inches thick left over from a load of logs I had bought. They were full width and full thickness and I can tell you that they were extremely valuable to people looking at building a staircase. People will pay top dollars for lumber like that as long as it has been well stickered and is in good condition. Congrats again on all your work. Always more fun when you do it for yourself without crazy production targets and crazy deadlines ;)
