When you're turning, do you take your foot off the gas and just hover over the break during the turn or do you slightly press the gas during the turn?
@quanbrooklynkid77766 жыл бұрын
good question
@juggernog12166 жыл бұрын
hover over the break until you have completed the turn and your wheel is straight then you can accelerate slightly. don't accelerate during a turn, like the video says you want to stay at a constant speed while turning also you want to slow down to about 10mph before you begin the turn.

@@MTLTV-eu4nv I believe in such countries, it is not a commonplace. Where I live, similar scenarios happen during peak times. At times, these situations can be dealt better by planning well ahead, and slowing down early so that the driver in wrong lane has time to switch lanes. Furthermore, I believe that as one approaches the car in the opposite direction, the view of the wrong lane drivers gets lesser and lesser. In the worst case, one might get so near the car that the other driver can't proceed forward.

@mariopkmnzelda5 жыл бұрын
My main issue isn’t so much the turning itself, its the moment to moment recognition of when it’s safe. For example if you’re on a main road at a green light waiting to make a left turn, and there’s on coming traffic, I have a difficult time figuring out how far away the oncoming car should be before it’s safe for me to make the turn. Like is it safe if it’s 5 houses away? 7? 10? I’m never really 100% sure, so I’ve found myself holding up the traffic behind me a little too much at times cause I can’t tell if it is or isn’t safe to make the turn.

He put on his left signal and practically immediately went into the turn lane. The person probably did not see his whimpy turn signal. If he would have put his signal on a few seconds early it might have held the other guy back (kept him from pulling out). There is also a chance the Helpful DIY would have seen the other car pull out, and therefore slowdown and continue going straight, BUT he was looking into his mirrors too much. He basically was looking behind him while not seeing a vehicle starting to pull out from a side road. This is a common mistake. Most people look in back of them too much while 95% of the potential problems are in your front zones. Going into the center turn lane (in order to do a left turn) is technically not a left turn so you are distracting yourself by looking into your side and rearview mirror. Then, once in the center lane, you look in your side mirror and over the shoulder check to make sure you don't turn into a bicyclist or pedestrian. So his "interlude" with a some better techniques should not have happened.

(assuming you run an automatic) go to an empty parking lot. let go of the break and let transmission drive your car. gradually begin to touch your gas pedal and ever so slightly push the gas pedal. get a feel for it. no other way to know this skill than to test it out on yourself.

(I drive with steering wheel on left of vehicle like you) I fear right turns because unlike the right turn on curbs, I align the left side of the car with the line I'm turning in or I just use an invisible and appropriate amount of space between my car and obstacles to my left.
