As a person who rides so many green horses, I understand your struggles so well. It can get very frustrating and disheartening but it's so rewarding in the end! So proud of you both, you're a wonderful trainer, rider and person! 💕

I just bought an ottb for my first horse. He’s not been restarted and has been off the track for 2 years. I love these videos because it’s very motivating. I can’t wait to see where him and I end up. I appreciate seeing this video showing the time it can take to restart an ottb. Seeing people hop on day 1 and be jumping full courses in 30-60 days makes me feel as though I’m not doing anything right- it can be very demotivating.

Omg! I’m so happy that you mentioned the whole it’s a green horse and you just have to do what you have to do! And that other horses people should understand. I have a 7 yr OTTB and she is amazing but I have to teach her everything. Unfortunately we had a frantic experience at her 2nd show. She is a little nervous now and won’t go over jumps. Watching this video gave me just what I needed! I learned take it slow no pressure for you or the horse. I’ve told myself that a million time but having a fellow equestrian say that means a lot.

This is the most invested i ever have been in a video of this kind. Sat here with a stupid smile on my face while watching his progress. You are a wonderful, knowledgeable trainer and an absolute pleasure to watch. You have the right mindset about EVERYTHING. This horse reminds me of two i used to have/ride/train and it was very reminiscent. He’s gorgeous. You’ve done a beautiful job. ❤️

It's hard to believe he's the same horse as the one in the first 10 minutes of the video. Both of you look so good and have come so far. ❤

As someone at the start of my journey retraining my tb mare, it's very nice to see a similar horse come out the other side and turn out really great. It's hard when they're this green to remember the potential they have.

I’m taking a green bean to his first show in September (I’m not a pro, I’ve just been riding a long time and I like the challenge.) and the slow progress, sometimes taking the regression as a good sign and to just take it easy is a great reminder when riding the green ones. Apollo is much different than Bits (incredibly lazy, kind of an ass some days.) but the idea is still the same. Thanks for the reminder!

This gives me hope for me and my TB mare. I’ve had her for a year and it finally feels like I’m getting somewhere with her undersaddle. She just needed way more time than I expected. Well me too. I’m aiming to show her at a local show in January, but we’ll see how everything turns out the next few months

Great job with him. He is definitely worth the wait and hard work you've put into him. Thank you for being so open and honest about your confidence, it's a breath of fresh air. I know we always think we have to be tough and brave but I've been through it too and still have to take it easy on myself at times or push myself when needed. As always love your vlogs. ❤️😍

Hey Stephanie. I won't worry about other trainers say. How you train Bitz. You are doing right thing with Bitz. By taking you time training him. How you want him to jump. And not be so nervous jumping the jumps Stephanie. And congratulations on your champion in his class. At the last show that last show you went with him. And was a super star . very proud of Bitz. Keep up buddy. I have faith in you Bitz. And Stephanie how is your little puppy doing?. All my love to all

Ty for being brave enough to tell us about your confidence and mindset etc. I’m currently dealing with the exact same situation with my boy as Bits, and it’s been hard without a coach. He’s finally relaxing more now and looking for the contact! Def had to let go of the vision I had for where we “should” be like you had to. Love from Texas 💕

I think you did great and I'm glad you're finally showing some of the less than stellar, raw show footage. Young horses, green horses and those with troubled pasts go through a lot with their trainer/rider before they get those picture perfect show photos over big fences. I love producing horses and am one of those who will always have a greenie on my string. I know there are trainers out there who can ride better and jump bigger than I can but that's not what equestrianism is about. It's about connecting with the horse in front of you and doing right by them in that moment. That's what you did here. He has grown so much and come so far with your help. That's one lucky racehorse and I expect he's just getting better with age! Well done! He looks SO good, you should be VERY proud!

I'm restarting an ottb mare I pulled off the track last year.. now that her feet have finally adjusted. She sounds a lot like Bits. Big, with some leftover anxiety but, totally worth the effort. If she turns out half as nice as Bits, I'll be thrilled!

Hi. I really enjoyed your video. You covered just about every issue with a very nervous OTTB. Thank you. I'm working with a trainer familiar with younger horses. I have been riding for many years but my previous horses were "made" so to speak. My boy is 6 and I've had him about a year and a half. We're coming along slow but sure. We're doing a lot of trot polls and very small cross rails. What bit did you finally feel gave you the best results with him? Thanks again for sharing your experience.

I felt the " I wasn't helping with his nervousness " I believe I've commented before about being a trainer at 14 and taking on a green horse at 12. She was my first green horse, I didn't have another trainer and nobody in my family was helping. Now my sister has taken her for a bit to help with her manners so then I don't get fell over on again. She switches her back legs often and I cannot sit a bouncy horse that is cross cantering. Especially with her being a long strided western pleasure bred Quarter horse. She's also only 14'3hh so it was a lot for me to take on. We're getting there but I honestly believe that I enjoy green horses other than horses that are finished and older. She took me over one of the biggest jumps I've ever done and I felt like I'm flying she's earned her spot forever.

I wish someone like you had ridden my horse when he was green. Or even after that. He’s 23 and I don’t even show anymore because he’s a nervous wreck all the time and always looks like bits did in that flat class. We can’t jump, even teeny little cross rails at home because he freaks out and bolts. I can’t handle it, and I can’t afford to pay someone to work with him… I feel it’s too late in his life.

Some horses learn quickly. Some horses take time. Some aren't comfortable as show horses and that's okay. The journey and destination are different for every horse and rider, what matters most is the health and happiness of both horse and rider. Too many trainers and riders judge horses and other riders/trainers based on what they see. Some are just plain abusive towards other people and horses, because they don't care about the build up they want to see results. I spent years under a horrible trainer who was one of those results-focused people and I had to spend almost double the time undoing the damage. Some people might judge you for what you're doing but you're doing it right the first time. The time spent training him now is time saved later on that would have been wasted on undoing trauma. Overall he will have a much longer career where he's happy and excited to do his job.
