I know its probably not that useful of a message for you, but ignore the people complaining. There are literally SO many OoT lps that are people returning to the game after a long time that they could be watching. Where there are reactions but also the instictive memory that stops them from getting stuck. This is literally one of the only, and EASILY the best, fully blind playthroughs out there. I love seeing things ypu struggle to figure out and then feel rewarded for getting. Things that I take for granted because Ive been playing this game for as long as I can remember. Keep up the amazing playthrough!
@Jigsawn26 ай бұрын
Agreed. A lot of Lets Players would already be resorting to tips from comments or chat, or simply looking stuff up online when they got stuck. I appreciate Mapo goes in blind and experiences it just like we original players did with little to no help and getting the revelations himself. Even though I understand how it can be frustrating to watch (I even groan sometimes), that's the true authentic experience of the game and I'll take that any day over a re-play or guide user. Having said that if Mapo does get really stuck for hours I definitely wouldn't begrudge him getting some hints if needed. It has some rough puzzles/progression blockers and with such a large world and wealth of items there are sometimes no easy leads. Keep it up Mapo, remember for every hater there are 10 people who are loving your playthroughs just the way they are!

I think there is something called 'Zelda Logic' that many develop growing up playing older Zelda games. It's not common or obvious if you didn't grow up on Zelda. What may awwm obvious or common sense to people who played Zelda, ALttP, Links Awakening pretty much up until Skywars Sword, newer gamers to older Zelda games are not going to make these crazy Zelda logic conclusions. People need to chill out and be supportive of anyone wanting to experience and learn what these old treasures were like. Thank you. ❤
@Eilavamp6 ай бұрын
Exactly! Think of how much smoother an experience he's going to have moving forward if he plays the other Zelda games. It's a language you learn that gets easier with each game/repetition. That formula is why people were so tired when Skyward Sword came out, and breath of the wild was literally a breath of fresh air, while still keeping a lot of that older logic we know from our years of experience. People definitely need to keep this in mind and cut him some slack. You're absolutely right 😊

That being said, later releases of the game, including on the N64 itself, changed it to green blood. However, they already had several cartridges of the previous version printed and ready to ship, so both versions released at once, and it was chance which one you got.

The versions containing the original music were the special edition gold carts which were a limited item and had to be custom printed ahead of the release date to meet the preorder demands. Hey Mapo, I've discovered your channel through this playthrough, and I just wanted you to know that this series has become my happy place over the last week or so since you've been uploading these videos. It's so comforting to rediscover a game from my childhood through your first time experience, and you also have such an easy-going yet eager and curious vibe about you that makes you really easy and enjoyable to watch. And I have to say also, with regards to criticisms that others might have over how quickly you may be figuring things out, one of the things that I really like about your playstyle is your self-awareness and understanding for when things do suddenly make sense. If it does take you a while to figure out a puzzle, I see you immediately understanding how it works, why it works, and why you might have missed something along the way, and that's a level of awareness that, frankly, not everyone has when playing a game like this. Please keep doing you, and thank you for taking us along on the journey!

I remember getting stuck on this for a long time as well, using a bomb on the Goron kid just didn't occur to me and the timing is hard as well. I keep making posts like this and well the fact is I did get stuck on this game many times as a kid. This is before the days of Game FAQs and guides, unless you had a magazine guide, friends playing the game or the internet (which was in its early days and not everyone had it) then you'd just get stuck for hours in a game like this, roaming the world for more clues but eventually just hitting a brick wall until you figured out the progression blocker. Same with getting Epona. In retrospect though these puzzles are either pretty tough or require leaps of logic or close attention to NPC clues. As a younger gamer I probably didn't have the same level of attention or ability to pick up clues as I do now.

I realize I'm late to the party on this, but I just wanna point out that a lot of people's enjoyment from these sorts of playthroughs actually comes from the frustration they get when the player doesn't immediately do what is required of them. And while that frustration often rears its head in the form of negative comments with you as the butt of the joke, you're ultimately still providing a good amount of entertainment to those people for them to keep watching. Because honestly, if someone didn't enjoy watching you play, they probably wouldn't even bother commenting (especially on a part 10 of a series) in the first place. In other words, you should take the negative comments are a sign that people enjoy watching you. I call it the Dora the Explorer effect

Hi Mapocolops! I've played Ocarina of Time when it was released, and I have played it more than most other games over the years. The main quest is basically second nature to me. But when I saw you jump the front gate instead of the back one I out loud said "Holy shit you can do that?!" And then you got the heart piece out of the spinning jar in Goron City that otherwise took me years to work out. When you kept thinking you could jump inside my first thought was "I'm skeptical that you could, yet intrigued that you may" from King of the Hill lol. Seeing someone experience this blind, after all the study around game design and programming I've done, is actually fascinating. I was actually giddy watching you go down into the well, going "Oh my God he's gonna do it." (By the way, yes. the blood is indeed in the original.) Anyways, what I'm trying to say is it is absolutely not frustrating to watch you experiment and try to feel your way around. In fact, it's pure joy watching someone else experience it for the first time. Here's hoping you do Majora's Mask next. It's a REAL treat

I get that some people are weird and feel the need to put down others for not playing "optimally" or for not immediately understanding certain concepts or ideas that maybe were obvious to them. But I think the vast majority, myself included, really enjoy seeing you figure this game out for the first time, especially with it being an old game on a console you have little to no experience with. When you said you bought an n64 controller for the sake of authenticity, it kinda blew my mind a little bit. lmao I also like that you aren't looking at input from viewers. I'm here for the full, blind experience, struggles and all. Silly mistakes and oversights included. Those are what make the playthrough unique. If everyone played the game the exact same way with no mistakes, things like this would not be as enjoyable as they are.

Partly because we get to share in your joy when you figure things out and partly (at least for me) because we get to relive our own first time through you. I played OoT on release way back in '98 and I was definitely worse at some things than you are. And like many others have said, even now, this many years later, I still learn a new thing or two. For me, instead of being frustrating, I get suspense every time you miss something or try something that I never expected. A good example of that is the chicken in the box in Kakariko village. You surprised me big time by using a bomb to get it out lol. Another example is the chest on the hill with the gold skulltula in the temple of the forest. I never thought in all these years that I was getting to it the "wrong" way lol! Also, now that you've gone back and forth with time, I just had a realization: If we put ourselves in Link's perspective, I wonder if he has to hold on to his immediate ideas for another 7 years every time he takes out the Mastersword... If so, I'd be screwed with how easily I get distracted XD

Seeing you try and figure this out without hand holding is great and rather funny.

I will say that it can sometimes be difficult to watch someone stumble around not knowing what to do but, at least for me, that's mostly the result of people not paying attention or not thinking about things. What I love about your playthroughs is that you DO pay attention, you DO explore and consider your options. Even if you end up chasing a red herring, the thought process is interesting to me. Take, for example, going back in time to try to buy the red tunic. That's a perfectly logical conclusion to draw given the information you had (and would've been a perfectly valid way to proceed in the game in my opinion, were it an option). I'm actually pretty sure I did that the first time I played through this area as well. So, and I obviously only speak for myself, it's really not that frustrating for me because I know that you'll figure it out because you like figuring things out, you're always trying different things and that, to me, makes for a good viewing experience. I'm very much enjoying this playthrough so far.

I don’t usually comment on let’s plays, but as an unspoiled player you’re doing amazingly well! Keep it up. I recently replayed this game and loved noticing lots of details with adult eyes. It’s great that you’re noticing things like the song complexity between young and adult link on your first play-through.

Don't worry about anyone being negative, the fun in watching these kinds of playthroughs is seeing someone experience a game I love for the first time. I like these long videos as well and getting to see your reaction to all the wonderfulness that is Ocarina of Time. Just make sure you are having fun with it Mapocolops, that's the most important thing!

Noooo the comments reached him. Leave dude alone. This blind play through is a national treasure. Seriously so refreshing and rare to have one like this. It’s great. Also absolutely belly laughed at your rupee luck Now we can go to the bottom of the well, and that’s where my flashbacks started

So interesting to hear the Kokiri kids talk about a "fair wind", considering the Forest Temple was apparently once supposed to be a WIND temple, complete with wind related puzzles and all. The forest medallion also looks more like a wind medallion than anything else 😄

Poor link must have been pretty beaten after those 20 unseen attempts at that heart piece 😂 One of the perks of a blind playthrough is seeing interactions you didn’t know possible. I had no idea you could jump the fence by Ingo! Such a cool detail!

This came out in an era where we didn't have an entire Steam library at our fingertips. As a kid I would be thankful to get a game on my birthday and Christmas so I spent a lot of time chewing on individual games. And I can't honestly remember how long it took me to figure out all the aspects on my first playthru. After watching a couple of channels that are very adamant about true blind playthrus, I appreciate the sanctity of it. It's hard to avoid spoilers when you have a bunch of fans watching along regardless of the series so I appreciate that you put effort into it.

This episode was an absolute joy. I mean, they all have been. The blinder the better!!! No need to apologize. Your reactions are gold, and I love watching you follow your thought threads sometimes to dead ends and other times to fruition. I look forward to each and every episode. Ignore the backseaters, this has been a delight. Thank you :)

N64 was my first console, I remember my older brother actually playing Ocarina of Time's story while I spent all my time in his save just riding around with Epona, so happy you got her, brings back the best of memories!

For me, watching you play is extremely nostalgic. Watching you come across all the same problems that I remember having as a kid when playing through oot for the first time, thinking of the same solutions, it just fills this fuzzy warm spot in my heart. I am genuinely enjoying watching you play this game, thankyou so much for sharing your playthrough with us.

Maybe it's just me but racing Ingo used to seem tougher for me back in the day. He always started ahead of me and then blocked the inside, the only way you could pass him was on the outside. You would spend almost the whole race trying to go around the outside only to beat him by a neck at the finish line.

I never beat him. I'm rubbish at that sort of thing. The field isn't that big, anyway, I kept telling myself...

Really not seeing why anyone would get upset fr. It is a BLIND playthrough. I will say that some textures seem to be taking away from the experience (like vines being in wrong places) but its not a big deal, and if its immersive and you like it thats all that matters. It brings back memories to see you play this with fresh eyes. (Thank you for rolling into the box, lol, I needed that 😅)

This episode was hilarious, the rolling into the crates was awesome, the gambling shenanigans had me crying, your reaction to not getting and then getting the red tunic was awesome. I love everything about this series. Thank you !

Have to say, I started watching you because of Cyberpunk, but this has become my favorite series from you. Awesome to see someone play this game truly blind!

I bought this game when it first came out...I was 22. Also bought the official player's guide, and i don't think i could've ever completed this game without it. To do it blindly is a huge undertaking! You're off to a great start!!!
