This might not be Radiohead's "best" album, but for me, it's unquestionably their most accomplished. It just quietly oozes mastery and for what it is, it's genuinely perfect.
@Zlagie3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. First listen it totally flew one ear and out the other, but second and third listen completely floored me. It takes a band of this experience level to take control of tones, texture and dynamics the way Radiohead manages to do with this album. Quiet mastery is exactly how I feel.

The end of Daydreaming is astonishing. They reverse Yorke's vocal ad-lib so that is jarring and abrupt. Then the strings play exactly the same jarring and abrupt melody. Then, we hear the growing, reversed speech as the song ends. I've never heard anything like it, it is to date their most experimental piece of music, extraordinary.

Decks dark and especially daydreaming have a special place in my heart as they are the songs me and my family would listen to when driving the alps in the middle of winter for our skiing holidays and i look out the window at the snowy alpine landscape, it would make me feel as if i was in a sci-fi movie with the amazing futuristic slow production and the tall peaks of the alps that would surround the car.

True Love Waits was written in the 90s and finally got a record release on Moon Shaped Pool
@NehemiahRyan3 жыл бұрын
I was going to bring that up. Radiohead fans that started following the band in the 90s know that the song is old and doesn’t have anything to do with Thom’s break up with his wife. Also, the original live version is way, way better than this version. It’s the same with Motion Picture Soundtrack. The demo/live versions are way better than the album.
@ljummingen2 жыл бұрын
@@NehemiahRyan god you sound like such an elitist
@el_mal_de_ojo2 жыл бұрын
@@NehemiahRyan Well, for one - whether one is better or worse is completely subjective as with literally every piece of music. And while it may not have been written about his wife's break-up and her subsequent passing, don't you think that the fact that those things happened and he's decided to change the arrangement and officially release it mean something? Doesn't the meaning of the song change as the context changes?
@760MaxJ2 жыл бұрын
@@el_mal_de_ojo Personally I feel like the version of it on A Moon Shaped Pool is just so emotionally intense and heavy that it’s nearly a completely different song. I prefer it but it’s way harder to listen to than the 90s version because of that. Also, I feel like the original 90s version was more about the future of a relationship and the excitement of feeling like you’ve found the right partner and the 2016 version is about the desperate attempt to cling to that same “right” partner when you know you’re losing them. It’s really tragic too considering that Thom’s wife passed away shortly after AMSP was released. He probably knew she was in poor health during the making of the album.

@@kevinfromttt Oh shit TTT album coming? I'm a bit biased by my age but I think the last decade or so of music was the best we've seen since 65-75, there's just a lot to wade through to find the diamonds. Really awesome to see you still inspired by new stuff with all your musical history.

Awesome reaction. One of my favorite albums of all time! I’ll watch “In Rainbows” when you end up doing that one.

“Decks Dark,” my favourite song on the album, appears at the climax of episode 1 of season 1 of “Ozark,” but the show uses the tremolo picking sound from the song’s beginning three more times (by my count) throughout the series, like an emotional leitmotif.

when I heard Decks Dark at the end of that episode I knew I was gonna love the show haha. Haven't watched season 4 yet though, gotta get around to it soon.
