In this video I show you (very quickly for me) the challenges I faced trying to fit the Hornby turntable in. I have come up with one alternative, a terminus station. However it requires a slightly contrived reversing branch line.... I would welcome any comments people have after seeing the context, there may be better options than I've thought of.
Social media has been so brilliant in improving my layout to date, so prior to me making this permanent, including making my operating well slightly smaller, not great with my waist line (and knees)!! Comments please!
I have a full run down of ALL of my layout design iterations (there are ALOT) on my website, they can be useful if you are coming up with your own layout ideas, it can be a long process...

I like the idea of the terminus station there, however I'd just go for a shuttle system into the tunnel and back out again, and keep it separate from the main layout (means you could have your dmus and such running backwards and forwards whilst also having other trains running round the loops. or don't have any of it and just use what you already have in place and have a bit of space. Either way im excited to see what you do!

Hi Mate, that's insightful as always, a neat idea. One of the main drivers I did have was for a DMU shuttling back and for. That would be a good solution. I completely agree having the loops as separate so I can have trains running around alot makes sense. Appreciated. Look forward to seeing your next videos too as always!! Cheers.

It might be a bit of a pain in terms of track work, but my suggestion would be to have a point off the inside loop, going in to a second set of points to allow access to the raised line and the terminus station. Cheers

@AberHaltJunction 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, no, you have a very good point. I have toyed with exactly the same option. It would fix a lot of the potential problems. In my stupidity though I have made my inner loop first radius…. Hindsight and all that. I am still toying with that idea though. It’s a good one. Thank you for the view and constructive comment. Cheers

@@AberHaltJunction Ah that's a bugger. Perhaps instead of the point off the inner loop, have the points on the outer loop and a single or double slip or perhaps just a simple diamond crossing on the inner loop?
@AberHaltJunction
@AberHaltJunction 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is potentially doable. It will mean a bit more jiggery pokery as the outer loop forms the dock wall and is elevated, however everything is surmountable hey? Thanks a lot for your input Paul, it may well be the solution. Cheers.

Sometimes less is more. If u have too much track crammed in then the scenery can be too sparce or look forced ..personally I'd just go for some decent scenery which will help set the railway into a more realistic look

swap the direction so trains can run into the station. Or an island platform with a bay platform or 2 - best of both worlds. or I guess go down to N scale.
@AberHaltJunction
@AberHaltJunction 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the original plan was to swap the direction, the issue I have then is that it will be beneath the hill, I guess I could put it underground, it could be quite cool like Birmingham New Street or something… As for N scale, yeah I pondered that way back when, I don’t think my thumbs or eyes could deal with it. It’s tiny!! Thanks for your comment and views. Cheers

I don't think you have enough space there for a terminus station. With your space problem perhaps less is more in this situation and it should be a scenic area. Factory with single line link ?
@AberHaltJunction
@AberHaltJunction 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, yes I think you will be in the majority. Hence why I threw this open to question, I'm just super keen to have a station in there, I guess I always skew towards having trains running etc than scenics, completely agree the common sense approach would be factory etc. In fact one of my first iterations of the track plan had a factory in there.... Thanks for the input mate, I have a lot to ponder, also if I keep eating cakes I need to keep my operating well as big as possible!!!
@PiddleInTheMarshbyMarkIreland
@PiddleInTheMarshbyMarkIreland 2 жыл бұрын
@@AberHaltJunction Well if a station is so important add one to the main line and as space is a premium make it an island platform. A station is a station. You have one terminus so a through one would be good.
@AberHaltJunction
@AberHaltJunction 2 жыл бұрын
@@PiddleInTheMarshbyMarkIreland Hi Mark yeah, I was just in the shed pondering your comment and thinking if I did go down your route I would have to bring back my island platform. I can get there from the terminus station, so it's doable from that perspective. Yes, you have given me food for thought. Thank you.
