Nice - I’ve never tried this turret technique before. Will give it a go, looks good. Thanks 🙏

Added bonus of placing turrtes up high like tyat is that tanky creatures like super mutants can't rush up to them and destroy them with their melee weapons. Great idea well executed.

@@dwarf_nz483 Thanks, I appreciate your comment! Way back, when I was new to Fallout 4, I was so proud of my turrets at Greentop, up on a block, away from threats... until feral ghouls swarmed them! That's when I realized turrets have to be up high, pointing the right way, and _inaccessible_ ! But it took years before I learned rug & pillar glitching, the skills necessary to build turret towers like this. Glad you like the technique! Feel free to use it, my gift to the Fallout community.

4:17 I was going to suggest using a warehouse foundation instead of the wood floor to allow sinking of the pillar. I didn't realize we have a bit of sinking leeway with the wood floors when we were standing below them. You taught this old dog a new trick! Not sure when I'll use it but it's a good trick to have in my bag.

I don't feel smug, I just figured it out myself after four years! But I did realize after posting the video that I could've used the warehouse foundation and had full depth on the post. Edit: even with the foundation, there's a limit as to how much the turret will merge with the column. The leeway limit on the floor may be more of a result of that. This was a particularly good work site, no obstructions to make placing the platform difficult. I've had to work in much tighter spaces where the foundation wouldn't have fit. Several times, I had to "spiral stairs" the small wood floors around the column. Even on the back gate turret at the Slog, I had to place steps on a wood floor to get the right height for the post and turret. Also, if you can get close enough to the column, you may not need a conduit, just grab the turret directly with the post.

@@keithsavagelives I would likely approach it in a different way. Merging them together at a ground level and then raising the whole column into place. Admittedly I've never built one of these turret towers before so that may not work but it would be the way I'd try first. If I had to do it in the air and a foundation wouldn't fit I'd probably rug a garden plot up there. That being said it was cool to see the pillar sinking into the wood floor. I'm sure it will come in handy at one point or another in the future. We can never have too many tools in our box.

@@TheInsaneShecklador The wholesale method was problematic, hard to get into position, particularly if you weren't sure about where you needed the column. The garden plot is a great idea, and I am going to be using all these tricks and suggestions. You are absolutely correct about never having enough tools. Thanks again for all the help!

@@keithsavagelives Doesn't really matter what road we travel as long as we get where we want to go. Having multiple paths to choose from is always a plus.

the fact that this wasent a vanilla feature without using glitches is just stupid

Technically, it's an exploit, not a glitch. So, even if the studio didn't bother to explain it, or openly make it part of the game - it's still there, and everyone* can utilize it. I never bother complaining about what game studios do, I just try to enjoy the game, even when I'm frustrated. *Everyone with the DLC Wasteland Workshop, anyway... It's a requirement for pillar glitching that you have the prerequisite items, the concrete pillar and the steel post. They're only available if you have the GOTY or the DLC.
