TURTLES, SHARKS & MANTA RAYS - LADY MUSGRAVE

SAILING, DIVING, DISCOVERING is a great part of what we do with our lives.
TURTLES LAY EGGS whilst HATCHLINGS HATCH and dash for beach hoping to escape seagulls and crabs that would make a meal of them. By the time the little ones manage to reach the water REEF SHARKS lie in wait for a good meal of them - it's quite heart breaking sometimes to see these cute little creatures having to struggle for survival, but then again THIS IS THE CIRCLE OF LIFE and the complete circle is something few will get to see in one place at one time.
This amazed us by our time at LADY MUSGRAVE, a very beautiful island and part of the Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast of AUSTRALIA.
We've captured a few moments for your viewing pleasure and we hope you enjoy .
(Ps. I realise we are busy with a series 'Sailing into Covid' - our times through Indonesia) however this movie is a 'current time fill in' and filmed as recently as yesterday.

Another great video guys. Watching the baby turtles fight to get into the water is so sad when you realise out of the 90 or so baby’s only around 10 will survive. We watched the same thing in Oman, even had to rescue some babies that were stuck in a ditch.🤙🏼🤙🏼

Hey Nick - thanks for sharing that with us mate 👍 Those little things really seem to be so full of energy and determination and so inspiring to watch em go … and then … look up and I see all the sharks circling and wonder how it’s possible that most won’t make it. The one I show in the video - there’s a point where he stops on a stone and looks up as if to see the setting sun - it’s a moment and then off it goes again and I wonder if they have some inbuilt knowledge that there’s a massive chance they won’t be around for long 🤔 Natures so interesting and it’s happening all around us while we chase money and keep being too busy with man made things that distract us … but if we take these gaps in our lives to learn and appreciate there is so much more meaning on things for us Cheers my friend - keep smiling 👋

Perfect timing to see you guys come back into my youtube feed. We actually tried to get to Lady Musgrave yesterday but the weather blew out a bit more then expected, so we returned to Bundaberg. Thanks for the kind words 🍻 Yes we saw there would be a ‘blow out’ and whilst we could’ve remained anchored there we kinda felt we wouldn’t be able to do much with that weather . It’s an amazing place for sure and it’s nice to know Australians don’t take this for granted 💕 I’m still working on ep2 of our return trip which unfortunately will be a long one again 😂 ! I’m sharing some technical stuff about our departure out of Torres Strait hoping it will help sailors going that route - it may be a bit boring for many but my hope is to blend it for sailors and people who enjoy seeing adventures in different regions . Videos like this do take time to put out and sadly aren’t very popular but I love that people can use the information 👋 Cheers 🥂

Pleased you saw that - we didn’t figure it out right away and then suddenly realized what it was. I didn’t read the tag on the Turtle as we didn’t want to disturb her … I’m told they mostly tag the turtles on Heron Island 🤔 not far away from here

They apparently orientate themselves though light - moon, stars etc which reflects off water . This is why people mess up their internal compass by shining lights etc. It’s quite incredible bit this is what I’ve been told by people looking out for turtles
