I would like to add a few things coming from a beginner. Don't worry about measuring the wrist. From what I have learnt, the thickness of the hand is the same thickness as the elbow, so if you try to measure the wrist (which is smaller than the hand), you won't be able to get your hand through. Don't worry about the sleeve of the wrist having a big gaping hole in it, if you are using a furry paw as a glove, then it covers that up. I reckon though if you want to fix that though you could sew in some clear jewellery elastic around the end of the sleeve (this is what they use for beanies and other hats), or you can add some velcro. Better yet, just make a sleeve that also doubles as a glove. Besides, if it's something like a dragon talon, you might prefer to do that so there will be less seams. Give a seam allowance depending on your sewing style. I give an allowance of about two or three inches, and measure it as I go to make sure that the final product is the right size (allow it to be a bit bigger than the measurements given). If it's too big, then all you need to do is sew another seam and cut the excess off. Making one too big is much easier to fix than making one too small. If you tend to give a very small seam allowance, then you can go about with two inches. If you are handsewing, I say only give half an inch or less and blanket stitch it. I am dyslexic, I have trouble reading all measurements. But as long as I keep measuring as I go there will be less chance for mistakes. To also help me on my problem, I buy fabric just for making patterns and figuring out measurements, rather than doing the measurement straight onto the fabric (that kind of technique is usually something only experts can do). I use felt rather than cardboard or the typical pattern fabric, as to me, it's just easier to work with due to its weight (it does not roll up like pattern cardboard, it won't crinkle and curl over). It is also good to get used to using both centimetres and inches just in case (typically one inch = roughly just under 2 centimetres) The sleeve is not meant to cover the shoulder. If you look at shirts, the sleeve starts just when the shoulder ends. I say if you are planning on wearing a shirt with really small sleeve on your fursuit, invest in making a furry "shirt" to cover the remaining skin. Then again, you can just go for making a full suit. Cut off the remaining seam after you finished sewing for more room and make it less uncomfortable. You can even hem it if you want to (although faux fur does not need it)

@Sandwichscoot
@Sandwichscoot 6 жыл бұрын
Yup. I'd also like to suggest using a backstitch. Back stitches are really strong and easy to do, and I think it would work pretty well with this type of project. I do think a blanket stitch would also work, so you can pretty much use either one.

This is so helpful! My sona has a really complicated pattern on his arms, so I couldn't just measure my arm. So what I did instead is cover my arm in cling film, then cover that in a few layers of duct tape. After that I used a sharpie to draw on the designs, then carefully cut each piece out and traced it onto my fur. Great video, and since I'm a beginner I didn't think to put bias tape on the edges or connect them with elastic to keep them in place while you're wearing them. You truly are the god of fursuit tutorials XD

I'm making a Tabaxi "fursuit"(it wont have a suit head and will be more like a half partial with digi padding underneath pants) for Halloween and I had no idea how I was going to get my arms all furred without sewing the sleeves to my work shirt. I completely forgot about elastic bands heh...

what always confused me is, doesn't it feel uncomfortable? like that faux fur doesn't stretch does it? i would be afraid for it to kinda sit too tight when you bend your arms or legs on a full suit.
