Easy tutorial of how to build a nice 3.3V voltage regulator. The finished module will give you a nice and stable 3.3V output that you can use in your project. 3.3V output is often used in RC or IMU modules and most microcontrollers dosen't have a 3.3V output or if they do the output current is limited.

Cool. This video is rocking; nice work area. It looks a lot like my set up. If I need a part, I always have one. Video cards I don't like to rob parts from. In fact, the less you mess with them the better, it sucks when you need to repair one. I love to rob TVs. stereos, vcrs, dvd players; oh and PCs for sure. Old Motherboards have lots of treasures, yep fun stuff. Looking up parts and finding out what kind of circuits they go in is just amazingly fascinating. I can tell you feel the same. Very, cool, dude.

i will test this now, but with ceramic smd capacitors. i keep you in touch, i have also burnt 3 ams1117 3.3v bi wrongly connecting (i follow the original ams datasheet), i want to test this. see you soon

Another question, with my ohmmeter, the pin 2 (center) seems to be connected to the top pad, what is the pin connected to the top pad? you can also solder your ams1117 little below, to solder the top pad to a large copper plane for better heat dissipation.

***** I didnt know what i did, i checked the datasheet and its correct. I dont know why i used the pin 1 as output, pin 2 as ground and pin 3 as vin... I also making tutorials, i actually working on my Custom Gamecube regulator, the ams1117 is perfect for the 3.3v line that take at max 0.8Amps. bye

How much can the input voltage change from 5v? Will that affect the 3.3v output?
@jenntek.101
@jenntek.101 Жыл бұрын
it should be stable at 3.3v Max output current is 1.4a Max input voltage is 30v; but, make sure you use at least a 50v capacitor. Capacitors matter.

Why there is needed capacitors? can i use just the AMS1117? direct give 5v and get 3.3?

+Tomas Av. of course you can but BE CAREFOUL! The job of those capacitors is to fine regulate your voltage. If you have a small vlotage peak the capacitors will filter it. So I recomand you to always put those capacitors. The 0.1uF capacitor is for small fast voltage peaks. The bigger capacitors store a small charge in case your device needs more for a small amout of time. Is the basic configuration of a voltage regulator. Those are called coupling capacitors. Tanks and keep Up.

+ELECTRONOOBS I just saw a design that uses 470uF on the output for AMS1117. It is connected to an ESP8266 and multilex 8 analog sensors. Is 470uF overkill or would 100 be okay?

Alesandro de Lima the value would increase as the current draw increase this nrf chip uses about 200mA so 100uf is ok...its ok to use bigger value but not ok to use too less value than recommended :)

gave you a "like" for a cool vid, but there's something bothering me, as you mentioned, the arduino does have a 3.3v output pin, but you say it is "limited", what do you mean by that, why is limited about it and why you're circuit is not limited?
@ELECTRONOOBS
@ELECTRONOOBS 8 жыл бұрын
hi there. as I say in the vide the arduino 3.3 output is CURENT limited. The maximum current is around 200mA which is enough to light a led but it is not for the radio module. You will need an external voltage regulator which can give you a higher CURENT because the nrf24 module uses a lot. I recomand the ams1117 voltage regulator to 3.3 volts. keep up. thanks

@ELECTRONOOBS

Big capacitor supply slow peaks of voltage and create a very stable regulated voltage. Small capaictors eliminate small current peaks.
